Downtown Urban Arts Festival Kicks Off Next Month
The DOWNTOWN URBAN ARTS FESTIVAL will present 16 plays (nine shorts and seven one-acts.) The festival kicks off on Friday, May 5 and Saturday, May 6 when Savion Glover and Reg E. Gaines (Bring in da Noise Bring in da Funk) make a much-anticipated return to The Public Theater with the centerpiece production If Trane Wuz Here.
B-BOY BLUES THE PLAY to be Presented at Theatre Row
Downtown Urban Arts Festival will celebrate its 20th Anniversary with James Earl Hardy's B-BOY BLUES THE PLAY. Directed by Broadway World Award nominee Christopher Burris, performances will run June 3 - 25 at Theatre Row as the centerpiece of the 2022 Festival.
INEGRO A RHAPSODY World Premiere Begins Tonight At New Ohio Theatre
The New Ohio Theatre and IRT Theater Archive Residency world premiere of iNegro, a rhapsody, begins performances tonight at New Ohio Theatre (154 Christopher St.) in New York City! iNegro, a rhapsody is written and performed by Kareem M. Poetic Theater Productions has announced their annual festival of new poetic theater, Poetic License: Renewal. In honor of a new decade, and in celebration of 10 years of poetic theater, this year's festival will feature live performances from Wednesday, March 4th through Sunday, March 8th at the Wild Project, located at 195 East 3rd Street. Nuyorican Poets Cafe To Host Anti-Gentrification Event
On December 5th, the Nuyorican Poets Cafe proudly presents a panel with Jeremiah Moss (author of Vanishing New York), Sarah Schulman (author of Gentrification of the Mind) and Betty Yu (co-founder of the Chinatown Art Brigade). These activists and authors will discuss the personal and social impacts of gentrification, and explore effective forms of anti-gentrification activism. The talk will center on the history, and current state, of gentrification in the Lower East Side. Poetic performances by muMs, Caridad De La Luz, and Darian Dauchan will finish out the night.

The Barrow Group Presents World Premiere Of Lyle Kessler's PERP
The Barrow Group, under the leadership of Co-Artistic Directors Seth Barrish and Lee Brock and Executive Director Robert Serrell, closes its 2018-2019 season with the world premiere of Perp by Lyle Kessler. Cherry Lane Theatre Announces Playwrights Award-Winning Mentor Project
Cherry Lane Theatre is proud to announce that this year's Mentor Project playwrights include Kareem M. Lucas, Matthew Paul Olmos, and C.A. Johnson, who will join the previously announced mentors, Craig muMs Grant, Taylor Mac and Martyna Majok as part of the 21st season of the Obie Award-winning Mentor Project. Mentor Project will culminate in three fully-staged productions presented between February 20 to April 13, 2019.
