Josephine Beavers Will Make West Coast Debut at Catalina Jazz Club

Singer Josephine Beavers, the Chicago vocalist who has been generating national press coverage for resuming her career in her middle years, will make her major West Coast debut at the Catalina Jazz Club on Wed., May 25 at 8:30 P.M.  She is being presented by Mike Stoller (of Leiber-Stoller) and his wife Corky Hale, and Corky will also make a special guest appearance.  Beavers will be accompanied on piano by her musical director, Ed Vodicka.

Hale is one of the few people still performing who was actually a close friend of Holiday's, playing for her on the 'Stars of Jazz' TV show, and on several recordings and live appearances, and was the only female pianist to regularly accompany her.

Songwriters Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, whose classic song 'Stand By Me' just received worldwide acclaim for its climactic performance at the Royal Wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, will be inducted into the American Jazz Walk of Fame in Kansas City, MO on Saturday, June 2. Their names will be embedded in a bronze medallion on the sidewalk near the Jazz Museum. Their 1952 song classic '(Going to) Kansas City' is now considered to be the city's anthem.
