Neither Douglas Clarke's lavish set nor Marie Quinn's Broadway-bright lights, neither Connie Furr Soloman's classy and colorful costume design nor a cast comprised of some of the Valley's thespian luminaries can save Terrence McNally's snarky snipe at Broadway, IT'S ONLY A PLAY, from its weak legs ~ currently Phoenix Theatre's featured production, running through February 11th.

Phoenix Theatre's Liberace! tells the story of a lonely closeted man, former child prodigy pushed by his working-class overbearing father, who somehow became the highest-paid entertainer in the 1980's, and responsible for inspiring the eccentric styles of cultural icons today. His death made a spectacle by a less-than-kind coroner, Liberace takes the stage once more to explain and defend his life decisions with compassion and grace.

Due to critical acclaim and popular demand, Playwrights Horizons and Center Theatre Group have announced an extension of their New York premiere co-production of THE CHRISTIANS, a new play by Lucas Hnath (A Public Reading of an Unproduced Screenplay About the Death of Walt Disney, Red Speedo, Isaac's Eye, Death Tax). Directed by Obie Award winner Les Waters (Doris to Darlene at PH; 10 Out of 12; In the Next Room, or the vibrator play; Big Love; eurydice), the play is the opening production of the Playwrights Horizons 2015/2016 Season.
Playwrights Horizons Now Accepting $5 Lottery Entries for THE CHRISTIANS' First Preview
Playwrights Horizons begins accepting entries today, Wednesday, August 19, for the LIVEforFIVE online lottery for $5 tickets to their New York premiere of THE CHRISTIANS, a new play by Lucas Hnath (A Public Reading of an Unproduced Screenplay About the Death of Walt Disney, Isaac's Eye, Death Tax). Directed by Obie Award winner Les Waters (Doris to Darlene at PH; the recent 10 Out of 12; In the Next Room, or the vibrator play; Big Love; eurydice), the play is the opening production of the theater company's 2015/2016 Season, and it's a co-production with L.A.'s Center Theatre Group (Michael Ritchie, Artistic Director; Stephen D. Rountree, Managing Director).
Actors Theatre of Louisville Opens GNIT, 3/17
Artistic Director Les Waters and Managing Director Jennifer Bielstein have announced the world premiere of Gnit by Will Eno, directed by Artistic Director Les Waters. The play will run in the Pamela Brown Auditorium and will begin previews on March 15, open March 17 and run through April 7. The 37th Humana Festival of New American Plays is made possible by a generous grant from the Humana Foundation. With the community helping Actors Theatre reach the first of three critical fund-raising deadlines allowing the company to continue operating at least through mid-January, Ron May, founding artistic director of Stray Cat Theatre, will direct 'Hunter Gatherers' on Stage West at the Herberger Theater from Dec. 30 through Jan. 15.
