Review: THE BOOK OF MORMON, Theatre Royal, Glasgow
This outrageous musical comedy from the creators of South Park, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, and Bobby Lopez, the Co-writer of Avenue Q and Frozen, follows the misadventures of a mismatched pair of missionaries, sent on a mission to a place that's about as far from Salt Lake City as you can get. Now with sold-out productions in London, on Broadway, and in North America, Melbourne and Sydney, The Book of Mormon has become a worldwide sensation.
Review: THE BOOK OF MORMON, Edinburgh Playhouse
It might be impossible not to have heard about the musical, The Book of Mormon. Unless you've been locked away from the world for the last couple of years. Oh. Well, pandemic aside, this show needs almost no introduction.

BWW Review: THE BOOK OF MORMON, Bristol Hippodrome
If you speak to someone who says they don't like musicals, chances are, when you mention The Book of Mormon you'll be greeted with more enthusiasm than scepticism.
So what is it about this show that manages to transcend the traditional musical theatre perceptions? The subject matter? Hearing the c-word sung to high heaven? The sight of a goose-stepping Hitler with devil horns in a dream sequence?
BWW Feature: THE BOOK OF MORMON at Koninklijk Theater Carré
The Book of Mormon has been a phenomenon for years. Sold out performances on Broadway and the West End. Raving reviews. A total smash.
Koninklijk Theater Carré has had the brilliant thought to finally bring the (original English) show to Amsterdam. Thank heavens. Or Joseph Smith. Or Jesus. Or...
BWW Review: Audiences Give Praise to BOOK OF MORMON at The Music Hall At Fair Park
The Book of Mormon swept through Dallas this week and could not have been better received by it's audiences. When auxiliary parking and bathroom breaks take enduring longer lines than those in certain sacred texts, you know the buzz about a show has hit it's peak.
Wondrous comedic duo, Trey Parker and Matt Stone of South Park and Team America fame, first blessed our great nation with The Book of Mormon in 2011. The work was a daring collaboration with Robert Lopez, who we can thank for the genius music and lyrics on Avenue Q and a little song called "Let it Go" from Frozen. The story is at its core a simple tale of finding your voice and accepting one another. But true to the creator's particular brand of humor, the narrative is told through a gleefully tongue-in-cheek style production rife with vulgar humor and lewd imagery.
Review: BWW's Michael L. Quintos Picks Best of O.C. and Beyond for 2018
As with each passing season, 2018 proved to be another exceptional year for theater not only in Souther California in general but also in Orange County---my home base. This year, the OC finally welcomed the debut of what has become this century's most awarded and most renowned stage musical ever about the Founding Father etched regally on the 10 dollar bill. Meanwhile, So. Cal. enjoyed a powerful surge of new stage works that explored Asian-American experiences, a positive step forward in the presentation of diverse voices we seldom hear from on the stage. A pair of touring musicals---both opening in the O.C. in early 2019---made such an impact in their Los Angeles engagements for me personally that I had to include them in my list, even though I have not 'officially' reviewed the productions for print. With that said, here is my 'Best of 2018' from Orange County and adjacent locales nearby---a mixture of outstanding shows and brilliant performances that made a lasting, memorable imprint in my theatergoing experience this year.
BWW Review: BOOK OF MORMON Rings the Doorbell at Clowes Memorial Hall
The assumption when you take your seat for THE BOOK OF MORMON is that you will laugh, perhaps even laugh a lot, but that is far from the truth. You are much more likely to be in physical pain from full-belly laughing for nearly the entire show. Trey Parker and Matt Stone did an exceptional job using humor as a vehicle for some excellent life lessons.
BWW Review: THE BOOK OF MORMON at Fisher Theatre is Laugh Out Loud Funny from the Very First Doorbell Ring!
Hello! Back by popular demand, The Book of Mormon, is here in Detroit at the Fisher Theatre through December 9th for a limited engagement. From the creators of South Park and Avenue Q, it was a night of theatre that they will never forget and made them laugh until they cried. This hilarious musical did not disappoint audiences on its return visit and had them amused from the first doorbell ring to very last one by the talented cast on stage.
BWW Review: The National Tour of the Foul Mouthed and Big Hearted THE BOOK OF MORMON Returns to Minneapolis for its 4th Engagement
If theater is my religion, THE BOOK OF MORMON is my most sacred text. Not the actual book of course, rather the wildly irreverent musical written by the creators of SOUTH PARK (Trey Parker and Matt Stone) along with EGOT winner Robert Lopez. It is a nearly perfect musical, and definitely one of most joyous musicals I've ever seen. One of the brilliant things about THE BOOK OF MORMON is that it allows us to laugh at institutionalized religion (and let's face it, there are plenty of ridiculous things to laugh at) while still espousing the value of faith in oneself and one's friends and community, and 'working together to make this our paradise planet!' It truly is a feel-good musical that has the hugest heart, despite its unbelievably foul mouth. Back when it premiered in 2011, THE BOOK OF MORMON was what HAMILTON is today - a smash hit musical that swept the Tonys and was an impossible ticket to get. Fortunately seven years later tickets are a little easier to come by; tickets are still available (including rush and lottery, click here for details). If you're a fan of musical theater (who isn't offended by profanity and poking fun at religion), THE BOOK OF MORMON is definitely a must-see. And since it's still running on Broadway and touring the country, it likely won't be available for regional productions for many years, so this tour may be your only chance to see it for a while. Don't miss it!
BWW Review: THE BOOK OF MORMON Rings Vancouver's Doorbell To Say 'HELLO!'
Invigorating music, impressive choreography, and unexpected hilarious humour are a few things that THE BOOK OF MORMON brought to its tour stop in Vancouver with Broadway Across Canada. With its original opening number, 'Hello', audiences were greeted with enthusiastically wide grins and high-energy singing during Wednesday night's performance at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre on September 26th. Whether it was your first time seeing the show or your fourth, it was guaranteed you left the show feeling satisfied and pleasantly surprised at the same time!
BWW Review: THE BOOK OF MORMON Says 'Hello' to the Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium
An exuberant blend of toe-tapping hits and raunchy comedy, The Book of Mormon knocked on the door of Broadway's Eugene O'Neill Theatre in 2011, later receiving 9 Tony Awards including the coveted title of Best Musical. Written by South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone along with Avenue Q co-writer Robert Lopez, this flamboyant mega-hit pokes fun at Mormonism and musicals in general, daring audiences not to be swept away by a riptide of crude humour and blatant social commentary.
BWW Review: Irreverent THE BOOK OF MORMON Still Big on Laughs, Slight in Shock Value
When THE BOOK OF MORMON opened on Broadway in 2011, it was called blasphemous, crude, raunchy, and genius. The brainchild of the creators of adult animated series "South Park," THE BOOK OF MORMON won nine Tony Awards, including Best Musical. This week it plays at the Durham Performing Arts Center (DPAC) for the second time.
Having now celebrated its seventh year on Broadway and two national tours, it's hard to tell whether THE BOOK OF MORMON has lost some of its shock value or if audiences are just more desensitized to it; nevertheless, it's still ridiculously funny and wildly entertaining.
THE BOOK OF MORMON is about two Mormon missionaries, who are sent to Uganda to spread the word of God. Knowing nothing about Africa, other than THE LION KING, they are totally unprepared for the harsh realities of this primitive village. But with the 'good book' in hand, they are determined to win over the villagers and maybe find themselves in the process.
