Winners Of 2019 Berkshire Theatre Awards Announced

At an SRO ceremony held at Zion Lutheran Church in Pittsfield, the Board of the Berkshire Theatre Critics Association (BTCA) presented the Berkshire Theatre Awards on the evening of Monday, November 11, 2019. This was the fourth year the awards have been presented to honor and celebrate the excellence and diversity of theatre in the greater Berkshire region.

La Mirada Theatre For The Performing Arts presents a fascinating, stirring look at patriotism - and what it means to be an American - with YOU'RE A GRAND OLD RAG, aptly named thanks to the famous Paragon Ragtime Orchestra, celebrating the music of the legendary George M. Cohan on June 30that 2 PM. Recognized even today as the iconic Yankee Doodle Dandy, Cohan became synonymous with Americanism through his rousing songs "Over There," "You're a Grand Old Flag," "Give My Regards to Broadway" and more. Today, the national dialogue brings this Congressional Gold Medal winner front and center.

The Mac-Haydn Theatre (MHT), after a successful run of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, continues its 49th season with the 2004 musical comedy Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. Based off of the 1988 movie of the same name, the 10-time Tony nominated musical by David Yazbek and Jeffrey Lane will be a MHT premiere.

The show follows him over a 60-year period period from the late 1880s until 1937. Beginning with his childhood in Rhode Island on the vaudeville circuit with his parents and sister as 'The Four Cohans,' to New York, where he starts his 25-year absolute reign of the Broadway stage.

In the WBT production of GEORGE M!, John Scherer, as George M. Cohan, is joined by a terrific cast including the 'Four Cohans': Jim Walton as George's father, Jerry, Melodie Wolford of Putnam Valley as George's mom, Nellie and Amanda Trusty as his sister, Josie. George's first wife, Ethel, is played by Laura Schutter and Jeanette Minson is Agnes, who becomes George's second wife. Katharine Heaton is Fay Templeton, Gary Lynch plays Sam Harris, Carol Schuberg plays Ma Templeton/Grimaldi. Check out highlights from the production in the video below!

Locals Star In GEORGE M! At The Westchester Broadway Theatre, 6/7 - 7/1

When George M! opens at the Westchester Broadway Theatre this Thursday, June 7, it will be adorned with a little local flair! Four members of this fantastic cast are Hudson Valley locals! Melodie Wolford, of Putnam Valley, who plays Nellie Cohan (George's mom) is a teacher at the Peekskill Movement Center. Victoria Dennis (nine years old) plays the Little Girl, which isn't her first role at the Westchester Broadway Theatre; she played Annie in Big River, she also will appear at the Apollo Theatre this Summer. Gabriella Palminteri, (ten years old) from Bedford, who alternates in the role of Little Girl, is also no stranger to the WBT stage, Last year she appeared in the Musical, Suessical as Mrs. Mayor. Colin Pritchard, of Harrison, is returning to the stage at the Westchester Broadway Theatre, the ensemble member of George M!, was most recently seen in our 2005 production of Sugar.

2011 NY Innovative Theatre Awards Honor Robert Patrick et al.' Winners Announced!

On Monday September 19, 2011, the IT Awards (New York Innovative Theatre Awards), the organization dedicated to celebrating Off-Off-Broadway, and host comedian Harrison Greenbaum, announced the 2011 recipients at the Seventh Annual IT Awards Ceremony at Cooper Union. This year's nominees represent 169 individual artists, 55 productions and 45 theatre companies. In 2011, the IT Awards had the most individual nominees than in any previous season with 169 nominees.
