BIO

Clive is currently at the Barbican playing the Ship's Captain in the Cole Porter musical Anything Goes. Recent television work includes: Maurice in This Time with Alan Partridge; Dr Merton in ITV’s Victoria; BBC1’s new sitcom King Gary; Roisin Conarty's Channel 4 series Game Face; and Outlander (Sony Pictures & Amazon Prime). In 2020 he completed a fifth season as a member of the BBC Radio Drama Company, including productions of: Middlemarch; Wuthering Heights; Polonius in Elsinore; Roderigo in Othello; Sir Max Raine in The National; George Carman QC opposite David Threlfall as Ken Dodd in Happiness!; and Sanctuary opposite Glenda Jackson. Clive is a frequently audio book reader, and his recordings of Frankenstein and Dracula have both won AudioFile Earphones Awards. He has recently recorded a new version of the Sherlock Holmes mystery The Sign of Four. Over the past year he has continued to record further audio series of Doctor Who, Space: 1999 and The Avengers for Big Finish.


Clive trained at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. His West End credits include: Horace Hardwick in Top Hat (Aldwych); Bernard Woolley in Yes, Prime Minister (Trafalgar Studios); Cliff Turner in Ducktastic (Albery); Sir Andrew Aguecheek in Twelfth Night (Regent’s Park); Friar Francis opposite David Tennant in Much Ado About Nothing (Wyndham's); and Killigrew in the Olivier Award-winning Nell Gwynn (Shakespeare's Globe). For the National Theatre he played Aeschylus in Frogs, Haig in Oh What A Lovely War and Henry Tittler in Earthquakes in London directed by Rupert Goold. For the RSC he played Fezziwig in A Christmas Carol (Stratford-upon-Avon) and Kahlil in Tartuffe (RSC/Birmingham Rep). On tour Clive starred as ‘Eric’ in The Play What I Wrote and played opposite Rik Mayall in The New Statesman. At Manchester Royal Exchange he played Victor in Private Lives, Rageneau in Cyrano de Bergerac and Batman in Dr Heart. Television includes Dick Turpin in Historyonics, George VI in The Windsors, plus featured roles in East Enders, Silent Witness, Hollyoaks, Law and Order UK, Casualty, A Touch of Frost, Doctors and Prime Suspect opposite Helen Mirren. Clive has recorded more than a hundred plays and serials for Radio 4 including leading roles in Time and the Conways, Barnaby Rudge, The Divine Comedy, Wuthering Heights, The Wild Duck and The Shootist.

WHAT THE DICKENS? Comes to OSO Arts Centre, Barnes Next Month

A new show What the Dickens? by award-winning playwright/singer Clare Norburn, her company The Telling and BAFTA-nominated director Nicholas Renton (Mrs Gaskells' Wives & Daughters, Lewis, Musketeers) exposes the private life of Charles Dickens: with an estranged wife and teenage mistress, he doesn't quite live up to the image of the family man he would like to present to the world.
Adrian Edmondson Will Play Scrooge in RSC's A CHRISTMAS CAROL

Adrian Edmondson will play Ebenezer Scrooge in the Royal Shakespeare Company's revival of David Edgar's adaptation of Dickens' much-loved classic story A Christmas Carol.  The production, directed by Rachel Kavanaugh, runs in the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, Stratford-upon-Avon between 26 October 2022 – 1 January 2023.

Artistic Director of Sheffield Theatres Robert Hastie today announces that Jenny Livsey is to take over the role of Nurse Ratched in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest by Dale Wasserman from the novel by Ken Kesey following the withdrawal of Lucy Black after she suffered an injury on Sunday morning. Javaad Alipoor's production is currently in previews and opens on Tuesday 12 June, playing until 23 June.
