CRITIC'S CHOICE: Scaring Up Theatrical Fun for Halloween
It's Halloween weekend and every dramatic personage and theatrical type we've ever encountered is caught up in the annual rush to find just the right costume for their holiday revelries (we confess we've never had the knack for coming up with Halloween get-ups - not since we went in drag to a party at the First Baptist Church as the age of 12…tongues were wagging, we are certain, but we lived to tell about it, so it couldn't have been that bad). In the meantime, there are all sorts of onstage happenings this weekend to keep you otherwise engaged should the difficulty of selecting your costume prove to be too much.

There's the definite feeling of autumn in the air that makes you want to gut a pumpkin or at least have a pumpkin spice latte, chances are you are definitely going to need a sweater in the early morning hours, and it's past the perfect time for you to pick out a Halloween costume. Luckily, theater companies are well into their new seasons and there's plenty of shows to entertain you while you take time off from berating yourself for wearing that same tricked-out Star Wars costume you wore the past fwo-and-one-half years.

Siblings Release PEARLS BENEATH THE RIND Poetry Book
Even siblings who have lived vastly different lives in different places can sometimes be surprised by their similarities. Richard Seldin and his sister, Carole R. Seldin-Bolinski, grew up with more than the usual dose of sibling rivalry and estrangements. They discovered they shared a love of writing poetry when both unknowingly entered the same poetry contest. More than a decade later, they have collaborated on this new book of poems that shows some writing similarities but from sharply distinct perspectives.

First Night: The Honors Gala is set for Sunday, September 4, at the Troutt Theatre at Belmont University, which kicks off at 5:30 p.m. with the Red Carpet Event, hosted by Jennifer Richmond and Trey Palmer, with fashion commentary by Cary Street, Joshua Waldrep and Lisa Garner Harrison. Impresario Johnny Delarocco (aka John Pyka) will produce a special Red Carpet performance by his company just for First Night.

BWW Reviews: THE GOVERNMENT INSPECTOR from Belmont University Theatre
There must be something in the water on campus at Nashville's Belmont University - sure, the theatre and musical theatre faculty's skills are virtually unparalleled, but it's the talent, the quality and the devotion to their craft of the students that truly boggles the mind and is worthy of unbridled and enthusiastic acclaim. You'd have to search far and wide for a more impressive group of student actors who, with director James Al-Shamma's staging of The Government Inspector, have once again proven themselves equal to any theatrical challenge.
