BIO
Christian St. Croix is a queer, Black, award-winning playwright living and working in San Diego, California. Often taking place over a single day or weekend, his urban and rural slice-of-life tales are infused with magical realism, and his characters narrate their own stories from behind the kitchen sink. St. Croix’s plays include the sibling motel fantasy drama (and 2022 O'Neill Finalist), WE ARE THE FORGOTTEN BEASTS, 90s teen soap satire, ZACH, and the haunting father-son fable, MONSTERS OF THE AMERICAN CINEMA.

Monsters can take human form and vice versa. I guess that’s the…uh…the Thing?

BWW Review: MONSTERS OF THE AMERICAN CINEMA at ArtsWest
For a play to be a truly satisfying journey we need compelling characters, conflict between those characters and some kind of resolution to the conflict where the characters grow or are richer for the experience. And while ArtsWest’s World Premiere of Christian St. Croix’s “Monsters of the American Cinema” certainly has the first two elements it lacks the third making for an unsatisfying evening.
