The Museum of Arts and Design (MAD) will present Queer Maximalism x Machine Dazzle, the first solo exhibition dedicated to the genre-defying artist Matthew Flower (US, b. 1972), better known as Machine Dazzle. A provocateur commanding an expanding repertoire of stagecraft, design, performance, and music, Machine Dazzle is a virtuoso practitioner of queer maximalism's aesthetic language of gay liberation.

In a tale as old as FaceTime, Electronic City pulses with potential as a dynamic dystopian mash-up where LED, KLM, EDM and 'news' of J-Lo's CVS H20 all vie for our short attention spans. Art imitates and pixelates life, and a co-dependency on little screens leads to big problems for Joy (Jeanne Laurent Smith) and Tom (Brandon Lee Olson), a disconnected but determined couple whose relationship status can best be described as 'buffering.'

New Stage Theatre Company (www.newstagetheatre.org) will bring its signature blend of inventive choreography and striking visual design to a modernist masterpiece of German theater with its production of 'Electronic City' (2003) by Falk Richter, translated by Marlene J. Norst, adapted and directed by Ildiko Nemeth. Performances are April 12 to May 10 at The New Stage Performance Space, 36 West 106th Street (basement level).

Andrew Schneider to Receive 2014 Tom Murrin Performance Award

Dixon Place has announced the recipient of the 2014 (second annual) Tom Murrin Performance Award, a.k.a. 'The Tommy.' Intended to a transformative career opportunity to an early career NYC-based artistic or company, this year's award will be presented to Andrew Schneider, a performance / interactive-electronics artist who was previously a seven-year member of the Wooster Group. The second annual Tommy Award presentation will take place at Dixon Place (161a Chrystie Street, New York City) on Sunday, April 27th at 7:30PM. The awards celebration - featuring a special appearance by the 2013 Tommy Award winner, talk-of-the-town performance company ANIMALS, as well as Tom Murrin's wife, Patricia Sullivan -- will be the final stop of a parade of spontaneous outdoor performances, which will commence at closing of the Tom Murrin Full Moon Performance Festival at La Mama. The parade will begin approximately at 6:45pm and travel from East 4th Street to Dixon Place. The Tommy Award party at Dixon Place is FREE, with a cash bar all night.
