Con un aplauso final que se prolongó por más de cinco minutos, la Ópera de Bellas Artes llevó a cabo la primera de dos presentaciones en el Palacio de Bellas Artes de la ópera de Igor Stravinski, The Rake's Progress (La carrera de un libertino), en lo que representó el regreso a las producciones en amplio formato, luego de dos años de contingencia sanitaria por la Covid-19.

Based loosely on the eponymous eight paintings and engravings by William Hogarth (1733-1735), Stravinsky's dramatic opera follows the decline and fall of a profligate heir who makes a devil's bargain with Nick Shadow, abandoning life in the country and his tender fiancee for the wicked temptations of London.The Rake's Progress will be performed 7:30pm, Thursday, August 2 and 2:00pm, Saturday, August 4 at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Boston Lyric Opera Announces 40th Anniversary Season
Boston Lyric Opera's Stanford Calderwood General and Artistic Director Esther Nelson announced today that each of the company's 40th anniversary season productions will be presented on a different, iconic Boston stage, starting with its largest-ever undertaking—a spectacular international production of the beloved Georges Bizet opera Carmen in a provocative staging by director Calixto Bieito, co-produced with San Francisco Opera and making its American East Coast premiere at the Boston Opera House on September 23, 2016.

For the last time this season, art influences life with Utah Opera's “Libretti & Libations,” a partnership with Salt Lake City's top mixologists to create craft cocktails inspired by the current opera production. During May, six social sippers -- Bambara, BTG Wine Bar, Caffe Molise, Finca, Takashi and Pallet -- offer the second installment of opera-based libations with “The Pearl Fishers”-inspired craft cocktails as a way of creating an intersection between food and drink, and opera.

With music and lyrics by Gabriel Kahane and book by Seth Bockley, FEBRUARY HOUSE, currently playing in The Public's Martinson Theater, opened on Tuesday, May 22 and was originally scheduled to close on Sunday, June 10. Single tickets, beginning at $80, are on sale now.

It's a taste of February House, the heady new chamber musical at The Public (by way of Long Wharf) that may still be in need of some sharpening and editing to match its lofty ambitions, but still offers some refreshingly high-minded moments of musical theatre.
