BWW Review: Board a Magic Carpet with the Kiddos for Orlando Shakes' ALADDIN AND THE MAGIC LAMP

The tale of Aladdin is one most of us know from the Disney telling of the story in the famous animated film of 1992. Growing up, Aladdin was my favorite Disney film, so, when I was given the opportunity to review ALADDIN AND THE MAGIC LAMP at the Orlando Shakespeare Theatre, I jumped at the chance!   I quickly realized however that the show is not based on the version from the film, but instead on the Middle Eastern folktale 'The Arabian Nights' - which, was unexpected but a great surprise! The premise of the story is still the same, there are just a few slight variations (for example, there are two genies instead of one!). So, if you plan on seeing the show be prepared for some things to be a little different than what you remember.

BWW Review: DOUBT: A PARABLE Is a Heart-Breaking, Challenging Tale at Garden Theatre

Theatre production company Beth Marshall Presents' latest play at the Garden Theatre is an exceptionally challenging one; for artists and audiences alike. One would be safe to assume that with a title like DOUBT: A PARABLE the play will focus on the varying ways in which one can experience the emotion; and while that is true, on closer examination, the far more important aspect of the play's title comes after the colon; 'A PARABLE.' Beth Marshall's production of this 2004 Tony and Pulitzer Prize winning play is anchored by a four-person cast which gives uniformly stirring performances, but one in particular might ultimately undermine the larger lesson which playwright John Patrick Stanley was looking to teach.
Garden Theatre Presents DOUBT, Now thru 2/22

The Garden Theatre will present the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning drama Doubt, A Parable, showing tonight, February 6 - 22, 2015 at the Garden Theatre (160 West Plant St, Winter Garden). Doubt, A Parable is produced by Beth Marshall Presents and is sponsored by Insight Credit Union and The West Orange Times.
