Richmond Symphony Announces Full Schedule for 2016 Summer Recital Series

RICHMOND, Va. (May 2, 2016) – The Richmond Symphony (RSO) is happy to announce 'Rachmaninoff & the Russians' as the theme of its third annual 2016 Summer Series of recitals. These weekly concerts continue in association with the University of Richmond Department of Music and VCU | School of the Arts | Department of Music. This year, the series is made up of six casual, one-hour evening concerts featuring the music of Sergei Rachmaninoff and works by other Russian composers. Performances take place in Dominion Arts Center's Libby S. Gottwald Playhouse on Thursdays, July 7 – August 11, 2016 at 6:30 p.m.
Richmond Symphony Presents Saint-Saëns' CARNIVAL OF THE ANIMALS Today

March 7, 2016 – Richmond, Virginia Meet some of the wonderful members of the animal kingdom in Saint-Saëns' famous Carnival of the Animals today, March 19 at 11am. This popular and beloved work is part of the Union Bank & Trust LolliPops Series and is an all-time favorite for introducing children to classical music. Each of the movements represent a different member of the animal kingdom, including a lion, swan and elephant. Joining the Richmond Symphony to help represent the animals will be The School of Richmond Ballet and guest pianists Daniel Stipe and Charles Staples. Special narration will be provided by Virginia Repertory Theatre's Bruce Miller. The concert will be held at the Carpenter Theatre, Dominion Arts Center, and led by guest conductor Ankush Kumar Bahl. The concert will include additional works by Brahms, Rimsky-Korsakov and Saint-Saëns.

The Richmond Symphony Presents SUMMER AT CENTERSTAGE, Now thru 8/28

The Richmond Symphony has announced a new summer concert series starting in July, 2014 entitled Summer at CenterStage. In its inaugural season, the eight one-hour long recital style concerts will feature the complete sonatas of Johannes Brahms as well as other works for piano and solo instrument. Summer at CenterStage is perfect for those new to the classical music experience, as well as for the most die-hard listeners and offers fantastic music in a relaxed environment.
