An exhibition of works by Haile King Rubie, a 26-year-old Harlem artist with Down Syndrome, will inaugurate the Clara Francis Gallery, a new Harlem art spot, July 27 to August 17, 2016. The exhibition, 'Haile King Rubie: Speaking Colors,' is primarily drawn from Rubie's 'art waves' of 2013 and 2015 and features contemplations of his otherwise inaccessible inner world. The new gallery space, located at 2070 Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Blvd., is a welcome addition to Harlem's art district.

NYC Parks Cuts Ribbon on Manhattan Waterfront Greenway Accessible Ramp

"Accessibility to greenspaces comes in many forms, from proximity within our neighborhoods, to equitable distribution of funds for parks in high-need areas across the five boroughs," said NYC Parks Commissioner Mitchell J. Silver, FAICP. "Constructing this ADA-compliant ramp provides a much improved universal access point onto the Manhattan Waterfront Greenway for the able-bodied while opening up a whole new world of access for those who are disabled."

The annual Will on the Hill event welcomes Members of Congress from both sides of the aisle and distinguished Washington insiders onto the Shakespeare Theatre Company stage to perform a political satire infused with Shakespearean language and references. The event pays tribute to the unique dynamic of our city and provides a wonderful way to engage new audiences. Proceeds from this event support STC's many education, artistic, and community engagement programs including in-school workshops and online learning resources that inspire new and diverse audiences and deepen the connection to classical theatre in learners of all ages. Will on the Hill will take place in Sidney Harman Hall (610 F Street NW), and begins with a VIP cocktail reception at 6:30 p.m., followed by the performance at 7:30 p.m., and a buffet dinner immediately after the performance.
Cissy Houston to be Honored at Benefit Gala for Harlem's Mama Foundation for the Arts, 6/16

NYC Parks Cuts the Ribbon on Newly Improved Highbridge Rec Center

On Monday, May 5, NYC Parks First Deputy Commissioner Liam Kavanagh joined Congress Member Charles Rangel, Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer, City Council Member Ydanis Rodriguez, Community Board 12 District Manager Ebenezer Smith, and Joel Towers, Executive Dean of Parsons The New School for Design, to cut the ribbon on the newly restored Highbridge Recreation Center in Northern Manhattan. The Highbridge Recreation Center, located on Amsterdam Avenue and West 173rd Street, underwent extensive renovations during the past three years, and NYC Parks and community partner organizations celebrated the center's re-opening with a day of free sports, fitness and educational activities for children and adults of all ages.
