BWW Reviews: BLOWN BY THE WIND - A 5 Star Hilariously Naughty Night

New Showroom at French Quarter Gives Peter Mac a Show Palace for Judy Garland

Some great things are already happening at the very beginning of 2012. Peter Mac now has his very own showroom inside the French Market Place on Santa Monica Boulevard in the heart of WeHo called the French Quarter Restaurant Showroom. The room seats 65 and has the warm atmosphere of a small Vegas-like show palace but with a definitely distinctive Hollywood air, as portraits of the greatest Hollywood stars surround you. Opening night was Friday, January 27; the show was simply amazing, and the room was SRO. It was very exciting with Mac in top form, giving it his all, as the crowd hung on every word/note. I am so pleased that this terrific tribute artist is finally starting to get the attention he so richly deserves. Winning two Eddon Awards for Best Cabaret Artist-Male and Star Making Performer, Mac should be ranked among the best in his field, which includes the likes of Charles Pierce, Jim Bailey, Jimmy James and Steven Brinberg. He has a great singing instrument, is very funny and charismatic - and what amazing acting chops! Just when your sides are splitting as Judy Garland tells a riproaringly riotous anecdote about Noel Coward, you suddenly find yourself moved to tears, when Garland talks about the price a celebrity pays, her insecurities, but always triumphing over them and coming back a winner. This a great opening show with the promise of a sensational year ahead for Mac and his new venue.
Tribute Artist Peter Mac Talks Judy and Other Audience Favorite Divas

Tribute artist Peter Mac happens to be one terrific actor/singer who does his very best work in a dress. In our interview, he talks about how it all started, the characters he honors and his gig at the Gardenia over the next year. Like Charles Pierce and Jim Bailey before him Peter Mac is keeping the art of creating impressions alive and vibrant.
BWW Reviews: Peter Mac Becomes JUDY

Female impersonators dress in drag and sing or tell jokes, and that's the show. Jim Bailey sings. Charles Pierce was funny in a dress with a joke or anecdote. Peter Mac is much more. His impersonation becomes theatre with a mission. Becoming Judy allows him to portray Judy Garland and also to sing as himself, but way more than that, it offers a message of hope for all gay men trying to cope and make sense of their lifestyle.
Peter Mac Does a Stunning Turn as Kate Hepburn in A Date with Kate @ the Gardenia

A devoted fan of Charles Pierce and his unforgettable Katie Hepburn illusion, I'm forever curious as to what new artists will do with this icon and her astonishing career and life - will they simply steal from others or really endeavor to put their own creative stamp on it? Peter Mac, who has been wowing audiences as Judy Garland and Liza Minnelli for the past few years, is memorable in his world premiere theatrical piece A Date with Kate. How does his Kate stand out? He does have the quaky voice, shaking head and walk down pat; the wig, the turtleneck with over the shoulders red sweater and kaki slacks getup hit the mark, but in the final analysis, what makes it all click? Somehow, someway he is able to create an illusion that is so totally honest that after five minutes, you swear you are in the company of dear Kate. Mac goes for genuine integrity and telling the stories as frankly as Kate herself told them in her autobiography Me, Stories of My Life, and it is this truth and his versatile and inimitable acting talent that win us over. Funny, yes! Heartbreaking, yes! This is not a campy impersonation, but the real thing... as Hepburn herself once said, 'I'm absolutely fascinating!' - and we are no less than completely convinced via the magic of Peter Mac.
