Mirror Stage to Prsent MAPLE AND VINE, 9/27-28

Sponsored in part by 4Culture and Humanities Washington, Mirror Stage is thrilled to open its 10th Feed Your Mind season with Maple and Vine by Jordan Harrison on September 27 & 28, 2014 at the Ethnic Cultural Theatre in Seattle's University District. On the surface, Katha and Ryu seem to have all that a 21st century Manhattan couple could hope for, but after meeting a charismatic man, they turn back the clock to the 1950s. Forsaking cell phones and sushi for cigarettes and Tupperware parties, Katha and Ryu join a community reenacting life as it was lived in the good old Eisenhower days. In this compulsively authentic world, they are surprised by what their new neighbors-and they themselves-are willing to sacrifice for happiness.
BWW Reviews: TARTUFFE at Taproot Theatre

A con-man who expounds on his own piety only to eventually be discovered as the most unscrupulous hypocrite of them all. No this is not the latest Senatorial scandal from Washington DC, but the season opener for Taproot Theatre as they present Moliere's comedy in verse, "Tartuffe". And while at times I felt they went a little too broad with the characters and lacked focus, they still managed to turn in a raucous evening.

Moliere's comic masterpiece brings us a con artist extraordinaire who oozes piety and charm. Will Tartuffe's hypocrisy be discovered before Orgon's household is turned on its head? Enjoy lightning-quick wit, star-crossed lovers, a badgering grandma and a plot that could be ripped from today's headlines - or a Saturday night comedy show. Associate Artistic Director Karen Lund directs Tartuffe which opens tonight and runs through March 3.

By the time they arrive at their Mediterranean villa, an aging matron and a young socialite have joined their quest for something more.
