Gold Coast Arts Center's Caroline Sorokoff Named Among Premier Businesswomen Of Long Island
Long Island's leaders in business and the nonprofit field gathered recently for the Premier Business Women of Long Island Awards Gala, held at the Heritage Club at Bethpage. Among the honorees included Caroline Sorokoff, who is the Associate Director of the Great Neck-based Gold Coast Arts Center and the Director of the Gold International Film Festival. The awards program, sponsored by RichnerLive, a division of Richner Communications, honored 48 business women for excellence in their fields and contributions to their communities.
Gold Coast Int'l. Film Fest Offers Free Screening Of Oscar-Nominated Short Films To Affected Federal Workers
The Gold Coast International Film Festival is offering a respite for federal workers impacted by the prolonged partial government shutdown; free screenings of Oscar-nominated short films in advance of this year's Academy Awards. The screenings, which are open to the general public, will take place on Sunday, February 10 at 6 p.m. in Port Washington, and Wednesday, February 13 at 7:30 p.m. in Great Neck. A select number of tickets will be set aside at each screening for the government workers.

The stars shone over the Gold Coast Arts Center in Great Neck, Long Island recently as film and television star Robert Wagner came to receive the second annual Burton Moss Hollywood Golden Era Award in recognition of his long, illustrious career that began in 1950 with his film debut in The Happy Years. The occasion also helped raise funds for the nonprofit Arts center and its Gold Coast International Film Festival, which starts on Friday, November 2, 2018 on the storied Gold Coast of Nassau County's North Shore, once home to entertainment legends including W. C. Fields, Paulette Goddard, Oscar Hammerstein, Alan King, Francis Ford Coppola, George Segal, and F. Scott Fitzgerald.

There were some people in the standing room only audience at Mr. Finn's Cabaret last night who were at an 'Evening With Jason Robert Brown' because they knew OF the Tony Award-winning composer and lyricist, but not because they were aware he is also an extraordinary performer. Jason's lyrics, melodies, harmonies, rhythms, and voice land on all the greatest of notes and the folks at Barrington Stage Company's cabaret couldn't contain their enthusiasm during his exciting show. His performance consisted of an eclectic mix of songs from Mr. Brown's acclaimed career. He started with a new composition titled 'Hope' from his latest album ' How We React And How We Recover' and then performed compositions from many of his Broadway shows (Parade, The Bridges of Madison County, Honeymoon in Vegas, The Last 5 Years, and Songs from a New World).

Norman Lear appeared 'live' via video hook up after the Gold Coast International Film Festival's screening of the documentary of his life, Just Another Version of You. Caroline Sorokoff director of the Film Festival interviewed Mr. Lear who was in LA. but his daughter NYC based Kate Lear was present to reminisce about 'life with father' at the talk back. After telling the packed audience at the Bow Tie Great Neck Squire Theater how much he loved his daughter Kate, Mr. Lear had some fascinating recollections to to share with director Sorokoff about his past and present career. Kate Lear is a writer, theater producer and arts advocate. She co-directs the Frances Lear Foundation and over the past decade has supported organizations working on behalf of disadvantaged youth, first amendment and voter protection rights, mental health advocacy and women's issues. It was a rare opportunity for the Long Island audience to see a definitive chronicle of Mr. Lear's life work and achievements. Famed documentarians Rachel Grady and Heidi Ewing had seized the opportunity to fashion a dynamic portrait in their film, which matches the spirit of probably the most influential creator, writer and producer in television history. Mr. Lear's legendary 1970s shows such as All in the Family, Maude, Good Times, and The Jeffersons, boldly cracked open dialogue and shifted the national consciousness, injecting enlightened humanism into sociopolitical debates on race, class, creed, and feminism.

The evening's presenters were Will Friedwald, author & music editor, Michael Cuesta, Screenwriter, director of Showtime's "Homeland" and Lou Diamond Phillips, Actor Director and the star of the upcoming fiom "The 33" The Gala Emcee was Award winning WABC correspondent Kristin Thorne. Regina Keller Gil is founder & executive director of The Gold Coast Arts Center and Caroline Sorokoff is an associate director of the Gold Coast Arts Center and Director of the Gold Coast International Film Festival. The festival will run November 9-15th.
