Review: FOOL FOR LOVE at Steppenwolf Theatre Company
by Rachel Weinberg - Feb 12, 2025

FOOL FOR LOVE has peak Steppenwolf energy. I’ve long associated Steppenwolf Theatre Company with gritty, messy, feral family and relationship dramas — Sam Shepard’s one-act fits the bill. It’s also only 65 minutes — that run-time is short, but it’s a logical choice in the TikTok era when attention spans are, too. An hour is still plenty of time for genius Steppenwolf ensemble member Caroline Neff to go toe-to-toe with Nick Gehlfuss (who audiences might recognize from CHICAGO MED) as toxic couple May and Eddie.

Review: A Creepy ENOUGH TO LET THE LIGHT IN At Contemporary American Theater Festival
by Jack L. B. Gohn - Jul 16, 2024

As a vehicle for making things go bump in the night, I’m not sure this show consistently hits the target. It is a bit too much of a human interest story for that, but a bit too bump-filled to work smoothly as a human interest story either. Yet there are some legitimate skin-crawling moments, and the story reaches as reasonable a conclusion as it can, taking into account the subject-matter and the indeterminacy of the ending I mentioned. Theatergoers may walk out arguing about that ending, which is probably a good thing. But it will in any event have been an entertaining ride reaching that point.

Review: Suspense & Horror at CATF with ENOUGH TO LET THE LIGHT IN
by Andrew White - Jul 9, 2024

With her play Enough to Let the Light In, Paloma Nozicka has crafted one of those great psychological thrillers; the build-up is slow but steady, the characters finely drawn, and the climax will make you jump.  But there’s no need for blood, it’s all in your head.  And if you are looking for an evening that gives you a few of those none-too-subtle psychological shocks, this year’s Contemporary American Theater Festival has just the ticket.
Interview: Breaking Limits, Genres, and Borders - Ji Woo Jung Talks About Pursuing an Artistic Career in America as A South Korean National
by Da Young Leem - Jan 11, 2024

As a South Korean theatregoer living in South Korea, I have always been interested in artists of Asian nationalities pursuing their artistic careers on Broadway. Whenever I heard more and more stories of artists of foreign nationalities who had already coursed amazing paths with their professional careers, I felt more connected to Broadway and American culture in general, even though I have been living in Korea for most of my life.

Review: POTUS at Steppenwolf Theatre Company
by Rachel Weinberg - Nov 13, 2023

This is a fun, female-driven farce. It’s a good reminder that a lot of American politics seems to involve competent women cleaning up after incompetent men — and the play hits on that message well. It’s a crazy, raunchy good time that I enjoyed, but I don’t think it delivers sharply on deeper themes or meanings. It’s best to sit back and enjoy the ride of just another insane day at this White House.
