Last night at the Minskoff Theatre, The Lion King celebrated a huge milestone- 20 years on Broadway. Creative team members Julie Taymor, Tim Rice, Garth Fagan, Lebo M., Mark Mancina, Roger Allers, and Irene Mecchi joined hundreds of alumni and others for a special performance of the show, culminating in a surprise performance by The Lion King's Tony-nominated composer Elton John.
THE LION KING Celebrates 19th Anniversary on Broadway This Sunday
Entering its 20th year, THE LION KING continues ascendant as one of the most popular stage musicals in the world. Since its Broadway premiere on November 13, 1997, 24 global productions have been seen by more than 85 million people. Produced by Disney Theatrical Productions (under the direction of Thomas Schumacher), THE LION KING is only the second show in history to generate five productions worldwide running 10 or more years. Translated into eight different languages (Japanese, German, Korean, French, Dutch, Spanish, Portuguese and Mandarin), productions of THE LION KING can currently be seen on Broadway; London's West End; Hamburg; Tokyo; Madrid; Mexico City; Shanghai; Scheveningen and on tour across North America, for a total of nine productions running concurrently across the globe. Photo Flash: Audience Dons Red Noses for 39 STEPS' Final Show at Union Square
39 STEPS celebrated its final performance last night, January 3rd, at the Union Square Theatre, after having played 14 previews and 303 regular performances. Cast member Robert Petkoff took a photo of the closing night audience, who donned red noses for the occasion. More than 61,000 people saw 39 STEPS during this run, which brought over 61,000 nosies into the world. Check it out below!
