The NYC Department of Cultural Affairs (DCLA) has announced four 2020 NYC Public Artists in Residence (PAIR), who will be embedded within three different City agencies over the next year. PAIR, which DCLA launched in 2015, places artists-in-residence at City agencies to address pressing civic issues through creative practice.

NYC Department Of Cultural Affairs Announces Open Call For The City's Next Public Artists In Residence
The NYC Department of Cultural Affairs has announced an open call for the next round of its Public Artists in Residence (PAIR) program, which places artists-in-residence with New York City municipal agencies to address pressing civic and social challenges through creative practice. Artists and artist collectives are encouraged to apply to work with one of four agencies participating in the 2020 PAIR program: the NYC Civic Engagement Commission, the NYC Department of Sanitation, the NYC Commission on Human Rights, and the NYC Mayor's Office of Criminal Justice. Applications are due March 29, 2020, and selections will be announced later this spring.

The Classical Theatre of Harlem kicks off its 20th Anniversary Season with a FREE outdoor production of The Bacchae. Inspired by Bryan Doerries' new version of Euripides' classic Greek tragedy and directed by CTH Associate Artistic Director Carl Cofield, The Bacchae will be performed in the Richard Rodgers Amphitheater in Harlem's Marcus Garvey Park (18 Mt. Morris Park West, enter the park at 124th and 5th Avenue and walk south to the venue) through Sunday, July 28th (performances are Tuesday through Sunday at 8:30 pm).

Valencia College To Host Reading Of Ancient Greek Drama About Refugee Crisis
On Feb. 21, Valencia College's West Campus will host a dramatic reading of "The Suppliants" by Aeschylus, an ancient Greek drama centered around a chorus of 50 female refugees seeking asylum in the city of Argos. As internal struggle rocks Argos and its citizens debate whether to receive the refugees, the group of women await the decision of their collective fate. The reading will be followed by a discussion on themes addressed in the text.
