Britt Berke is a director whose work examines taboo, intimacy, and love through
spectacle, curiosity, and joyful theatricality. She has developed and staged projects with
New York Theatre Workshop, The Mint, The Public Theatre, Mabou Mines, La Mama, Cherry Lane,Torn Out Theater (AKA “the naked Shakespeare company”), NYU Studio
Tisch, Ithaca College, PLAYDATE, and Origin Theater (Best Director nom.). Britt and her
work have been featured in The New Yorker, Time Out New York, Artforum, Brooklyn Magazine, and SDC Journal. She is a proud recipient of A.R.T./NY’s Funds for Anti-
Oppression Work and a NYFA City Artists Corps Grant. Britt is a member of Roundabout Directors Group; she is a WP Theater Lab Finalist and an alumna of the MTC Directing Fellowship, Moxie Incubator, the 24 Hour Plays, and the SDC & NAMT Directing Observerships. As an assistant director, she has recently collaborated
with Lileana Blain-Cruz (The Skin of our Teeth, Tony nom.), JoAnne Akalaitis
(Mud/Drowning, Obie Award) and Gabriel Vega-Weissman (Tituss Burgess’ Take Me to
the World at Carnegie Hall). Britt graduated magna cum laude from Barnard College of
Columbia University, where she was awarded the theatre department’s highest
honor: the Kenneth Janes Prize for Outstanding Intellectual and Artistic Achievement.
