BIO

Brid Brennan is an Irish actress best known for her work on stage and screen. She was born on April 1, 1955, in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Brennan grew up in a large Catholic family and was one of nine children. She attended St. Dominic's Grammar School for Girls in Belfast, where she developed a love for acting.


Brennan began her career in the late 1970s, performing in various productions in Ireland and the UK. Her breakthrough role came in 1988 when she played the lead in Brian Friel's play "Dancing at Lughnasa." The play was a critical and commercial success, and Brennan's performance earned her a Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Play when the production transferred to Broadway in 1992.
Brennan continued to work on stage in both the UK and the US, appearing in productions of "The Beauty Queen of Leenane," "The Little Foxes," and "The Weir," among others. She also made appearances in film and television, including the movies "I, Anna" and "Shadow Dancer" and the TV series "Brooklyn Bridge" and "The Escape Artist."
In 2018, Brennan returned to Broadway in the revival of "The Ferryman," written by Jez Butterworth. The play, set in Northern Ireland during the Troubles, tells the story of a family and their secrets. Brennan played the role of Aunt Maggie Far Away, a woman suffering from dementia who provides a link to the past. Her performance was praised by critics, and she was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Play.
Brennan's career has spanned over four decades, and she has become known for her versatility and range as an actress. She has worked with some of the most respected playwrights and directors in the industry and has earned critical acclaim for her performances both on stage and screen.
Offstage, Brennan is known for her dedication to her family and her community. She has been involved in various charitable organizations and has worked to promote peace and reconciliation in Northern Ireland.
