Utah Symphony Announces 2019-20 Season
Music Director Thierry Fischer and President & CEO Paul Meecham today announced the Utah Symphony's 2019-20 season, sponsored by the George S. and Dolores Dor Eccles Foundation, with highlights including multi-media concert experiences featuring the twelve movements from Olivier Messiaen's Des canyons aux toiles ( From the canyons to the stars ), a celebration of Beethoven's 250th birthday in 2020 and a gala concert featuring violin virtuoso Joshua Bell to celebrate the 80th Anniversary of the Utah Symphony's first-ever performance, which took place on May 8, 1940. American composer Andrew Norman returns to present three of his orchestral works and work with young musicians in Utah for his second year as Composer-in-Association, and during fall 2020, the Utah Symphony pays tribute to Hispanic Heritage with Disney's Coco in concert and several programs featuring music by Latin-American composers led by Carlos Miguel Prieto. In addition to the eighteen weekends of performances of the Masterworks Series, the details for the 2019-20 Entertainment Series, Family Series, UNWOUND concerts, and many special events were released. Music Director Thierry Fischer and President & CEO Paul Meecham today announced the Utah Symphony's 2019-20 season, with highlights including multimedia concert experiences featuring the twelve movements of Messiaen's Des canyons aux toiles (From the canyons to the stars), the release of Berlioz and Prokofiev recordings on the Hyperion Records and Reference Recordings respectively, and a celebration of Beethoven's 250th birthday in 2020. Additional highlights include the return of American composer Andrew Norman to present three of his orchestral works and work with young Utah musicians in his second year as Composer-in-Association; a gala concert with violinist Joshua Bell celebrating the 80th anniversary of the Utah Symphony's first-ever performance, which took place on May 8, 1940; and a tribute to Hispanic Heritage that includes music by Latin-American composers conducted by guest artist Carlos Miguel Prieto. Houston Symphony to Perform Schumann and Bartok, 10/3-4
?Music Director Andres Orozco-Estrada will lead the Houston Symphony in Robert Schumann's rarely performed choral work The Pilgrimage of the Rose, a cantata that features solo vocalists, chorus and orchestra today, October 3, 2015, at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday, October 4, at 2:30 p.m. The program also features Bartok's Divertimento for Strings.

Featuring four world-class vocalists, soprano-Sharla Nafziger, mezzo-soprano Susanne Mentzer, tenor Brian Stucki, bass-baritone Derrick Parker-and the angelic voices of the Pacific Chorale, the program also includes Mozart's Masonic Funeral Music, Fantasia in F Minor for solo organ, featuring organist Jung-A Lee, Ave verum corpus, plus, excerpts from and the Overture to 'The Magic Flute.' Taking place Today through Saturday, Jan. 31-Feb. 3, at 8 p.m., in the Renee and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall, the concert includes a preview talk at 7 p.m. and a post-concert talkback with Symphony advisor Joseph Horowitz and Maestro St.Clair.
