Review: HOLD ON at Edison Theatre on the Washington University Campus
by James Lindhorst - Jan 13, 2024
Webb’s historical drama is spectacularly brought to life by Ron Himes’ direction. The Black Rep's production of HOLD ON is spellbinding storytelling. It is a first-rate production of the momentous events that shaped the civil rights movement and resulted in important legislation. Himes, his cast, and crew have produced an exceptional piece of theatre that honors the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King.

It took time to unravel the events of the play's past and untangle the complex character relationships, like unsnarling knots out of a fine gold chain.

With more than 8,000 ballots counted to date, and with two weeks left to vote in the 'Great Society Primary' at Lincoln Center's Vivian Beaumont Theater, it is still anyone's race for President. In recent weeks, Senator Elizabeth Warren's once strong lead over the crowded Democratic field has slipped, and Mayor Pete Buttigieg has overtaken Vice President Joe Biden for the #2 spot in the poll. In addition, speculation of Mayor Michael Bloomberg joining the race has resulted in a handful of write-ins on his behalf, possibly fueled by his recent attendance at The Great Society.
