In a critically acclaimed performance that Entertainment Weekly said "ignited the stage," Brian Charles Rooney made his Broadway debut as Lucy Brown in the Roundabout Theatre Company's 2006 revival of "The Threepenny Opera." He later won the Connecticut Critics Circle Award for Best Actor in a Musical as Candy Darling in "POP!" at Yale Repertory, as well as the NY Musical Theatre Festival's Outstanding Performance Award for his performance as Dionne Salon in "BEDBUGS!!!"
Brian's other credits include: George McClellan / Mary Todd Lincoln in "Bayonets of Angst" (NYMF 2014); "Guys & Dolls" in Concert at Carnegie Hall, with Nathan Lane & Megan Mullally; Candy Darling in "POP!" (City Theatre, Pittsburgh, PA); Andy Warhol / Cherie in "Radiant Baby" (2014 NYC Workshop); The Devil in "Winner Take All" (FringeNYC; Outstanding Performance Award 2013); Tony in "West Side Story" (European Tour), Jinx in "Forever Plaid" (directed by Guy Stroman; Blumenthal Performing Arts Center, Charlotte, NC; Metro-Carolina Award Nomination); Homer in "Floyd Collins" (Actors' Playhouse, Miami; Carbonell Award Nomination); Featured Soloist ("Music of the Night," "Gethsemane," etc.) in "The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber" (N. American Tour).
Television credits include "Camelot, Live from Lincoln Center" & "Sondheim! The Birthday Concert" (both for PBS). Brian regularly appears at 54 Below; and has performed in concert at Joe's Pub, The Laurie Beechman Theater, & Stage 72 (The Triad). He has sung as a soloist with the Oregon & Seattle Symphony Orchestras. In 2007, Brian won The Kurt Weill Foundation's Lys Symonette Award for Dramatic Excellence.
