The Theatre Company Announces THE BROKEN HEART SPREAD By Claire Willett

After 15 months of strategizing, planning, and pivoting, The Theatre Company has announced the first film in a series of six: The Broken Heart Spread by Claire Willett. This film is a part of The Playwright Initiative: Solo Works - a robust commissioning series featuring six exciting playwrights turned screenwriters for this specific moment in time.

The Theatre Company has announced The Playwright Initiative: Solo Works, the 2021-2022 season of six new plays adaptable to both filmed and live stage performance. Writers Yussef El Guindi, Idris Goodwin, Emily Gregory, Ren Dara Santiago, DeLanna Studi, and Claire Willett have all accepted commissions for the 18-month initiative.

The Theatre Company Will Present THE MOORS by Jen Silverman at Taborspace

The Theatre Company presents its inaugural production, The Moors by Jen Silverman, March 18-April 11. Founded with the intention of transforming found spaces with bold, theatrical endeavors, The Theatre Company has chosen Copeland Commons at Taborspace in the heart of SE Portland's Mt. Tabor neighborhood as their non-traditional performance venue. While Copeland Commons has hosted small scale concerts and other arts events in the past, TTC's production of The Moors marks the first time a professional theatre company has staged a multi-week residency in the space. Co-Artistic Directors Jen Rowe and Brandon Woolley chose the venue specifically for its connection to the community and the story being told.
The Theatre Company Launches In 2020

Jen Rowe and Brandon Woolley are teaming up to launch The Theatre Company in Portland, OR. They will oversee the artistic vision of the company as CoArtistic Directors with their first season beginning in 2020. As staples in the Portland theatre community in multiple roles (director, actor, casting director, producer), these two thirty-somethings plan to present Portland premieres of timely, socially relevant, and culturally conscious plays. The Theatre Company's mission is to enliven their community by transforming found spaces with bold, theatrical endeavors. Their inaugural two-show season will premier in March 2020 with The Moors by Jen Silverman and Vinegar Tom by Carol Churchill in October 2020. Woolley directs and Rowe leads the cast of The Moors as Huldey in a production that will transform Copeland Commons at TaborSpace in Southeast Portland. Rowe directs Churchill's Vinegar Tom staged at The Hallowed Halls, a recording studio at Holgate and 64th Avenue in Southeast Portland.

A CHRISTMAS MEMORY and WINTER SONG To Open At The Armory

A Christmas Memory and Winter Song, the two-show pairing BroadwayWorld called "warm, nourishing, and just exactly what you want on a cold winter's night," returns to Portland Center Stage at The Armory. The production brings Truman Capote's beloved holiday story together with a gorgeous collection of winter songs, stories, and memories created by Brandon Woolley and Merideth Kaye Clark. A Christmas Memory paired with Winter Song begins preview performances on Nov. 24, opens on Nov. 30, and runs through Dec. 30 in the Ellyn Bye Studio. Woolley returns to direct, while Clark (Elphaba in the First National Tour of Wicked, Cathy in The Last Five Years at The Armory) and Leif Norby (Astoria: Part One and Two at The Armory) reprise their roles.

The two week festival - during which artists from across the country collaborate to workshop and develop exciting new scripts - culminates in the Big Weekend of free staged readings, along with community classes, dance, music, and other events at The Armory.
Playwrights Selected For The 20th Anniversary Of JAW!

This summer, JAW: A Playwrights Festival celebrates its 20th anniversary by doing what it does best: selecting some of the most exciting new plays of our time and providing complete support to the playwrights to develop those scripts in whatever area is most beneficial to them. Two weeks of script workshopping will culminate in the JAW Big Weekend, July 27-29, where public staged readings of the scripts will be presented along with performances from local artists and classes. Plenty of champagne and birthday cake will also be enjoyed, to celebrate all that JAW has accomplished since its brave and ambitious beginnings in 1999.
2018-2019 Season Announced At The Armory!

Portland Center Stage at The Armory's 2018-2019 season will feature 11 productions along with a special 10th anniversary return engagement of Storm Large in Crazy Enough, a show that had its world premiere at The Armory in 2009 and became one of the company's biggest hits.

JAW: A Playwrights Festival Full Schedule Announced

The 19th annual JAW: A Playwrights Festival is Portland's chance to preview spanking new scripts while they're still in development, enjoy a host of Press Play performances and dig deeper with Community Artist Labs presented by JAW featured artists. The JAW Big Weekend is July 28-30 in various locations at The Armory. JAW is always FREE and open to the public. More information about JAW is available at www.pcs.org/jaw.
