Theatre Philadelphia, the non-profit organization that promotes and celebrates theatre across the Philadelphia region, has announced this year's nominees for the Barrymore Awards for Excellence in Theatre. 
BWW Interview: The Bearded Ladies Cabaret, a Philadelphia-Based Queer Experimental Cabaret Troupe, Takes on Walt Whitman And Other Imperfect Heroes in CONTRADICT THIS!

It feels in many ways poetic that both the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots and the 200th anniversary of Walt Whitman's birth fall on the same year. That's precisely where The Bearded Ladies Cabaret comes in. The Philadelphia-based experimental cabaret troupe is part of La MaMa's STONEWALL 50 celebrations, joining a group of LGBTQ+ artists from around the globe. The Beards' contribution is the New York premiere of their CONTRADICT THIS! A BIRTHDAY FUNERAL FOR HEROES, which---spoiler alert---starts as a birthday party for 'much-lauded homo poet' Walt Whitman and descends into a trial, taking on Whitman's problematic political views, our imperfect heroes, and cancel culture as a whole.
Simpatico Theatre Partners With Parent Artist Advocacy League For Philadelphia Premiere Of CRY IT OUT

Simpatico Theatre Company closes their 'Season of System Failures' with the regional premiere of a new play that explores the effect that class has on parenthood in America. Molly Smith Metzler's CRY IT OUT will perform at The Louis Bluver Theatre at The Drake (302 S. Hicks Street, Philadelphia, PA) from June 5 to June 23, 2019. Simpatico will partner with PAAL, the Parent Artist Advocacy League, during this production to offer a variety of family-friendly opportunities for artists and audiences that focus on the working parent. Opening night for press is Friday, June 7 at 8PM.
2018 Barrymore Award Nominations Announced For Excellence In Theatre

Theatre Philadelphia, the region's marketing and leadership organization for theatre, proudly announces the 2018 nominees for the Barrymore Award for Excellence in Theatre. Celebrating the rich, diverse professional theatre scene in the Greater Philadelphia region, the Barrymore Ceremony will be held on Monday, November 5th at 7pm at the Bok Building at 1901 S. 9th Street in South Philadelphia. Guests will continue the festivities with an after-party Celebration at the same location. Tickets for artists, supporters, and the general public are now on sale at www.theatrephiladelphia.org.
Photo Flash: Azuka Theatre Presents The World Premiere Of MRS. HARRISON

Azuka Theatre ends the 2017-2018 season with the world premiere of Mrs. Harrison, by R. Eric Thomas, from May 2 to20, 2018. Mrs.Harrison is the third and final show of the season that celebrated Azuka's commitment to notable Philadelphia playwrights and unique Philadelphia voices. Producing Artistic Director Kevin Glaccum directs this suspenseful dark comedy and drama about two women, one story and their very different memories about their relationship in college. The show runs through May 20, 2018, for a total of 18 performances.  All performances will take place at the Louis Bluver Theatre at The Drake, 302 S. Hicks Street. Tickets for shows this season are Pay What You Decide, whereas audience members see a show first, and pay what they decide after the performance. For reservations, visit azukatheatre.org. Harper Lee Classic 'To Kill a Mockingbird' Kicks Off Brind School's Main Stage Series

The Ira Brind School of Theater Arts at the University of the Arts kicks off its 2009 - 2010 Main Stage performance series with Harper Lee's 1960 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel 'To Kill a Mockingbird.' The production is the first of four Main Stage shows to be presented by the Brind School this season.
