BIO

Brian F. O'Byrne is an Irish actor known for his work on stage, television, and film. He was born on May 28, 1967, in Mullagh, County Cavan, Ireland. O'Byrne began his acting career in the early 1990s and quickly established himself as a talented performer.


O'Byrne made his Broadway debut in 1997 in the play "The Beauty Queen of Leenane," which earned him a Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Play. He went on to receive two more Tony nominations for his roles in "The Lonesome West" (1999) and "Doubt" (2005). In addition to his work on Broadway, O'Byrne has also appeared in numerous Off-Broadway productions, including "The Sisters Rosensweig," "The Exonerated," and "The Coast of Utopia."
In addition to his stage work, O'Byrne has also appeared in several television shows and films. He is perhaps best known for his portrayal of Detective Keith Duffy in the HBO series "Oz," which ran from 1997 to 2003. He has also had recurring roles on the television shows "FlashForward" and "Aquarius."
O'Byrne has also appeared in several films, including "Million Dollar Baby" (2004), "Before the Devil Knows You're Dead" (2007), and "The International" (2009). He received critical acclaim for his performance in the 2008 film "The Hurt Locker," for which he was nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture.
In 2016, O'Byrne returned to Broadway in the play "The Crucible," in which he played the role of Deputy Governor Danforth. The production received critical acclaim and earned O'Byrne a Drama Desk Award nomination for Outstanding Featured Actor in a Play.
Most recently, O'Byrne starred in the HBO miniseries "The Plot Against America," which premiered in March 2020. He played the role of Herman Levin in the series, which is based on the novel of the same name by Philip Roth.
