Southwest Airlines To Cease Operations In Three Cities

Southwest Airlines announced today its decision to close three cities in the airline's network. On June 7, 2014, Southwest will cease operations at Branson Airport (BKG), Key West International Airport (EYW), and Jackson-Evers International Airport (JAN). Southwest began service to Jackson-Evers International in 1997. The airline added Branson Airport and Key West International Airport to its route map in 2012 as part of its integration with AirTran, a wholly-owned subsidiary.

In extending the carrier's bookable inventory, Southwest introduces new service between Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, beginning Feb. 13, 2014.

Southwest Airlines (NYSE: LUV) announced today that it has successfully completed the connection between the Southwest and AirTran networks. Customers are now able to purchase itineraries to the airlines' combined 97 destinations, including international, in one transaction. The newly connected itineraries are on sale now via all Southwest and AirTran sales channels for service starting on April 14.
