The Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University presents the 10th anniversary performance of "Too Hot To Handel: The Jazz-Gospel Messiah," honoring the life of Civil Rights activist and cultural icon Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., January 17 and 18, 2015. The exuberant jazz reinvention of George Frideric Handel's "Messiah"-a vibrant mix of Jazz, Gospel, Blues, Swing, Classical and Scat-features star soloists Rodrick Dixon, Alfreda Burke and Karen Marie Richardson. Long Beach Opera's offbeat double bill provides two iconic American takes on Igor Stravinsky's whimsical, neoclassical theater piece L'Histoire du Soldat. Composed in 1918, Stravinsky's original score was set to Ferdinand Ramuz's version of a Russian folktale about a soldier in pursuit of a princess and a treasure who is conned by the Devil.
