The pilot is executive produced and directed by Max Winkler ('Jungleland,' 'Flower').

Freeform has announced the cast for “Last Summer,” its pilot from eOne and executive produced by Bert V. Royal (“Easy A,” “Recovery Road”), with Iron Ocean Productions' Jessica Biel and Michelle Purple (“The Sinner,” “Limetown”), and Max Winkler (“Jungleland,” “Flower”). Royal also penned the script, with Winkler directing. Production recently kicked off in Texas.

The play explores the volatile relationship between an aging widower and his gay son. After meeting in a local pub, Jeff and a young gardener, Greg, hit it off and begin to date. When he meets Jeff's stubborn, opinionated Dad, however, Greg begins to back off. Meanwhile, Dad also has a new flame: a woman he met through a dating service.
