Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater Comes to the Benedum Center
The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust has announced, as part of the 2022-2023 Pittsburgh Dance Council season, the world-renowned Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater will perform at the Benedum Center, (237 7th Street, Cultural District) for one-night only on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at 8:00 p.m. This event is presented by the Pittsburgh Dance Council and BNY Mellon.

It's Christmas in August. Houston Grand Opera's (HGO) world premiere of composer Jake Heggie and librettist Gene Scheer's opera It's a Wonderful Life is now available for audio streaming, high resolution download, and CD pre-orders on the PENTATONE website. The CD will be released worldwide on September 1. It's a Wonderful Life is the newest addition to PENTATONE's American Opera Series.

City Lights Publishers Celebrates 60th Anniversary
In 1955, Lawrence Ferlinghetti was a mostly unknown poet and the co-founder of a popular all-paperback bookshop in San Francisco. His City Lights Bookstore was two years old and going strong when Ferlinghetti decided to launch a publishing imprint, inaugurating the Pocket Poets Series with his own first book of poems, Pictures of the Gone World, published in a letterpress edition of 500 copies. Priced at 75 cents a copy, the book was assembled by hand by Ferlinghetti and some friends at a small printer just down the street from the bookshop.

Washington National Opera (WNO) opens its 2014-2015 season with the company premiere of Daniel Cata?n and Marcela Fuentes-Berain's Florencia in the Amazon, September 20-28 in the Kennedy Center Opera House. This modern romantic drama, the first Spanish-language work WNO has presented in a decade, is inspired by the magical realism of Colombian author Gabriel Garci?a Ma?rquez. WNO Artistic Director Francesca Zambello revisits her world premiere production with members of her original creative team to present a fresh take on this contemporary classic. Conductor Carolyn Kuan leads the WNO Orchestra in her WNO debut.
