Broadway In Chicago to Dim Marquee Lights in Honor of Bernie Sahlins Tonight
'In keeping with a long-standing Broadway tradition, Broadway In Chicago wanted to dim the marquee lights to provide Chicago with an appropriate moment to reflect on Bernie Sahlins' lifetime in the theatre,' said Lou Raizin, President of Broadway In Chicago. 'Bernie Sahlins was a Chicago Treasure who contributed volumes to Chicago Theatre Artists for decades and he will be greatly missed.'
Second City Co-Founder Bernie Sahlins Dies at 90
Bernard Sahlins died peacefully at his home after a short illness. In 1959, Sahlins founded The Second City with Howard Alk and Paul Sills and served as the theatre's longtime producer and director until 1984. He produced multiple television productions in the UK and the USA, as well as SCTV in Canada. For the past eight years, he worked with the Poetry Foundation directing staged readings - the most recent of which was Comic Poetry. Honors include the Sergel Prize for playwright, several Jeff Awards for directing and the Alumni Achievement Award from the University of Chicago for his contributions to the theatre.

Anthony Mackie (The Hurt Locker) will play the lead role of Pentheus joining George Bartenieff as Cadmus; André De Shields as Teiresias; Jonathan Groff as Dionysus; Karen Kandel as Chorus Leader; Joan MacIntosh as Agave; Steven Rishard as Cowherd; and Rocco Sisto as Messenger.
