Brenda Edwards Will Direct UK and Ireland Tour of HAIRSPRAY in 2024/25

Christopher Newport University's Ferguson Center For The Arts Presents The World Premiere Of WE AREN'T KIDS ANYMORE
Led by a New York-based creative team helmed by director/choreographer Ilana Ransom Toeplitz, WE AREN'T KIDS ANYMORE, a new song cycle by Drew Gasparini will premiere at Christopher Newport University's Ferguson Center for the Arts for two performances August 17 and 18, 2019 showcasing a cast of CNU musical theatre students. Professor Colin Ruffer, who currently leads the musical theatre program at CNU, serves as music director. The production features music supervision by Justin Goldner, lighting design by Andrew F. Griffin, and is presented in partnership with Erica Rotstein.

BWW Interview: Drew McOnie Talks STRICTLY BALLROOM THE MUSICAL
Choreographer Drew McOnie's recent work includes Jekyll & Hyde at the Old Vic, Jesus Christ Superstar at Regent's Park Open Air Theatre, Bugsy Malone at Lyric Hammersmith, and In the Heights at King's Cross Theatre, for which he won an Olivier Award. He's currently directing and choreographing the UK premiere of Strictly Ballroom The Musical, which begins previews at West Yorkshire Playhouse on 30 November.
HAIRSPRAY Announces Second UK Tour in 2017/18
Today, producer Mark Goucher has confirmed that following the phenomenal success of the current UK tour, the new production of Hairspray will return at the end of summer 2017 to once again tour the UK. This second tour of the smash hit musical will visit venues across the country until the spring of 2018. Casting, dates and locations for the 2017/18 tour will be announced in due course.

Tony Maudsley to Don House Slippers in UK's HAIRSPRAY Tour; Full Casting Announced
Tony Maudsley (ITV1's Benidorm) will play Edna Turnblad in the major 40-week UK tour of Hairspray which will open at Curve theatre in Leicester this autumn. He will be joined by TV and stage actress and presenter Claire Sweeney (Educating Rita, Guys and Dolls) as Velma Von Tussle, Olivier Award nominated actor and much-loved Blue Peter presenter Peter Duncan (BBC1 Tumble) as Wilbur Turnblad and British singer and West End performer Brenda Edwards (Chicago, We Will Rock You, The X Factor) as Motormouth Maybelle. Freya Sutton will reprise the role of Tracy Turnblad alongside established musical theatre performer Jon Tsouras (A Chorus Line) who will play the role of Corny Collins. Dex Lee (The Scottsboro Boys) will play Seaweed, Ashley Gilmour (Miss Saigon) will play Link Larkin, Lauren Stroud (Wicked) will play Amber, Monique Young (Top Hat) will play Penny, Karis Jack (Urinetown) will play Little Inez, Adam Price (Hairspray) will play Male Authority Figure, Tracey Penn (Made in Dagenham) will play Female Authority Figure and Layton Williams (Bad Education, Billy Elliot) will play Duane. Further casting will be announced in due course.

The Sound of Music has seen several UK tours and productions over recent years and the Curve has decided to produce yet another version of the show for its Christmas production this year. Some say it's been done to death and Bill Kenwright has just announced another tour featuring Danielle Hope as Maria but the Curve somehow always manages to find something fresh. Artistic Director Paul Kerryson leaves the Curve on a massive directorial high.
