At a celebratory opening ceremony for The Jim Henson Exhibition, housed in a new gallery at Museum of the Moving Image funded by The City of New York, the First Lady of New York City Chirlane McCray, the Museum's Executive Director Carl Goodman, Deputy Mayor Alicia Glen, and City Council Majority Leader Jimmy Van Bramer were joined by Jim Henson's daughter Cheryl Henson, and special appearances by Abby Cadabby, Red Fraggle, and Fozzie Bear, among other guests. This major new exhibition is dedicated to the life and legacy of Jim Henson, who was a singular creative figure in the realms of television, film, and puppetry-and a New Yorker who made the City his base for family and work. The Jim Henson Exhibition opens to the public on Saturday, July 22.

The exhibition Matthew Weiner's Mad Men, which opened March 14 at Museum of the Moving Image, will be extended through the summer, closing on Sunday, September 6, it was announced by Carl Goodman, the Museum's Executive Director. 'A landmark TV series, Mad Men will continue to be watched, discussed, and studied for years to come. Given the extraordinary popularity of the exhibition, which has attracted a broader public beyond fans of the show, the Museum is very pleased to extend its run,' said Goodman.

Museum of the Moving Image pays tribute to the legacy of filmmaking in Astoria with an exhibition that traces the history of the Astoria studio, a local landmark with deep roots in the culture of New York City. Lights, Camera, Astoria!, on view from today, October 26, 2013, through February 9, 2014, explores each phase of the site from its start as Paramount Pictures's East Coast production facility in the 1920s, a center for independent filmmaking in the 1930s, the U.S. Army Pictorial Center from World War II into the Cold War, the site's rebirth in the late 1970s, to the present day Kaufman Astoria Studios, a thriving motion picture and television studio, and a vibrant cultural hub that includes Museum of the Moving Image, Frank Sinatra School of the Arts, and restaurants and cafes.

Jones's eagerly awaited biography, written with the cooperation of Jim Henson's family, covers the full arc of Henson's all-too-brief life, exploring the creation of the Muppets, Henson's contributions to Sesame Street and Saturday Night Live, his nearly ten-year campaign to bring The Muppet Show to television, and such non-Muppet projects as the richly imagined movies The Dark Crystal and Labyrinth.

Museum of the Moving Image to Present BREAKING BAD Exhibit, Begin. 7/26

Museum of the Moving Image will present "From Mr. Chips to Scarface: Walter White's Transformation in Breaking Bad," an exhibit featuring costumes, props, and video material from the highly acclaimed AMC television series. The exhibit will open on July 26, 2013 in the Museum's core exhibition Behind the Screen, and will be on view through October 27. On Sunday, July 28, the Museum will present Making Bad: An Evening with Vince Gilligan,Breaking Bad's creator-a special program featuring video clips about the evolution of the show and White's character.
