Firecracker Productions opens its season October 8 with the compassion and lyricism of Dominique Morisseau's Pipeline at Houston Warehouse Studios. Pipeline will run Fridays and Saturdays, October 8-23 at 8pm.
Youth America Grand Prix to Present THE MAKING OF A COSTUME at New York City Center
Barbara Brandt will explore the dynamics of costume design, from concept to creation, with fashion designer B Michael and choreographer Andrea Schermoly on Monday, February 9, 2015, in Studio 5 at 6:30 at New York City Center (130 West 56th Street, New York City). Also participating in the panel and debuting an original pas de deux are principal dancer Chase Finlay and Youth America Grand Prix alumna and soloist Lauren Lovette, both of New York City Ballet. A reception will follow the discussion. B Michael will create a one-of-a-kind tutu to be auctioned off at the conclusion of the evening. Proceeds from the event will provide much-needed scholarships for talented dancers.

Dance Against Cancer raised more than $200,000 for the American Cancer Society on Monday, May 5, 2014. Proceeds from the evening will benefit research initiatives and patient and family service programs. More than 500 guests attended the fourth annual Dance Against Cancer. VIP guests enjoyed cocktails, preferred seating, and a gift bag in addition to the performance and post-event reception. The performance featured new work by Brian Reeder created for American Ballet Theatre's Isabella Boylston with New York City Ballet's Chase Finlay and Amar Ramasar, Paul Taylor Dance Company in its first appearance at the benefit, Charles 'Lil Buck' Riley performed with students from National Dance Institute, and included the NYC premiere of Justin Peck's Sea Change. On January 27, 2014, in a large studio at New York's City Center, I had the pleasure of attending a benefit for YAGP, hosted by Barbara Brandt. American Ballet Theatre principals, Marcelo Gomez and James Whiteside, and soloist Misty Copeland gave up their day off to participate in this exhibition.
YAGP to Present THE MAKING OF AN ARTIST, 1/27
Youth America Grand Prix (YAGP) will present "The Making of an Artist" moderated by Barbara Brandt on Monday January 27 at 6:30pm at New York City Center Studios, Studio 5 (130 West 56th Street, NYC). American Ballet Theatre's Marcelo Gomes will create new choreography on renowned ABT dancers Misty Copeland and James Whiteside live. Through discussion and demonstration, their creative evolution will unfold. YAGP founding Board Chair, Barbara Brandt says, "I want to give the audience an opportunity to join the dancers and choreographer, in the studio, as we explore the question, "What is an artist?" The evening will conclude with an informal reception.
