Ashley is a Brooklyn based writer/actor who grew up in rural Lockhart, SC.
Actor: Floyd Collins (Floyd—Wiltons Music Hall, London), A Clockwork Orange (New World Stages), Casa Valentina (Gloria—Original London Cast), Truman Capote’s A Christmas Memory (Capote - New York Premiere-Irish Rep/ 2015 Outer Critics Award Nom), Merrily We Roll Along (Menier Chocolate Factory and West End), originated the role of Jett Rink in the World Premiere of the musical Giant (Helen Hayes Award nomination, Best Actor), The Last Goodbye (Williamstown Theatre Festival), Wicked. Film/TV: Stan and Ollie, Hate, Fallen Souls.
Training: University of North Carolina School of the Arts.
WRITER: Ashley penned the play adaptation of Annie Proulx’s BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN. Proulx says of the adaptation: “Brokeback Mountain has been recreated in several different forms, each with its own distinctive moods and impact. Ashley’s script is fresh and deeply moving, opening sight lines not visible in the original nor successive treatments.” He’s also adapting and developing COME BACK TO THE FIVE AND DIME, JIMMY DEAN, JIMMY DEAN into a musical with music by Dan Gillespie Sells (Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, The Feeling) and lyrics by Shakina Nayfack (Transparent Musical Finale, Connecting).
Book writer for FALL OF ‘94, music by Joseph Thalken (HAROLD AND MAUDE) and lyrics by Tony nominee Ellen Fitzhugh (GRIND, MYTHS AND HYMNS), being developed at Alabama Shakespeare Festival with a grant from the Shen Family Foundation.
His Southern Gothic musical LOCKHART (written with composer Jason Carr) just received an industry reading in London.
Ashley is a UCROSS FOUNDATION 2019 writing resident.
