As we learned in my blog, Decisions Are Hard, Boston University School of Theatre BFAers are tasked with declaring their major within the school halfway around through their second semester freshman year. It's been a year since I wrote that blog and officially made my decision to be a BFA Theatre Arts major.

I firmly believe that the best mode of learning for an artist is through the consumption of other art. It is so important for us to be patrons of art and artists. It’s not only a way of giving back to our fellow artists, but also a brilliant method of learning for our own artistic gain. Inspiration strikes from others, so it only makes sense that artists become inspired by the art of others.

Celebrating the Enduring Legacy of Iconic Canadian Pianist Glenn Gould on the 90th Anniversary of His Birth
Glenn Gould, the iconic Canadian classical pianist, writer, composer, conductor and broadcaster, would have celebrated his 90th birthday on Sunday, September 25th, 2022. To commemorate this milestone anniversary, The Glenn Gould Foundation has programmed GlennGould@90, a series of free events starting September 17th honouring Canada's futuristic musical maverick.

Arts Alliance Illinois, under the leadership of Executive Director Claire Rice and Board Chair Brooke Flanagan, Director of Institutional Advancement at Chicago Shakespeare Theater, welcome artistic, business, creative, and philanthropic leaders from across Illinois to the organization's Fifth Annual Benefit Luncheon on Thursday, June 8, 2017 at the Palmer House Hilton, located at 17 East Monroe Street in Chicago. Guest check-in and a reception begin at 11:15am, with the seated luncheon following promptly at noon.

2016 Roger Rees Awards Honor New York Students; Winners Announced!
The Broadway Education Alliance Inc. presented The Roger Rees Awards for Excellence in Student Performance (formerly the Gershwin Awards) on Sunday, May 22 at The Beacon School in Manhattan. The two-hour showcase hosted by Tim Federle (co-writer of Tuck Everlasting) featured 35 students who had played leading roles at 26 high school located throughout the five boroughs of New York, Long Island and Westchester.

MUSE/IQUE Spotlights Female Jazz Musicians, Screens 'THE GIRLS IN THE BAND' Film 11/11
MUSE/IQUE, known for its inspired, unexpected live music events curated by noted artistic director/conductor Rachael Worby, continues its 'Uncorked Series' with a spotlight on female jazz musicians on Monday, November 11, 2013, 7 pm, at the expansive Avon Distribution Center in Pasadena. The program at Avon, itself long a symbol of female empowerment, opens with a screening of the acclaimed award-winning documentary film The Girls in the Band, which traces the history of women jazz artists from the 1930s through present day, exposing sexism and racism faced by the immensely talented women who broke through primarily male music bastions. Avon, according to Fortune magazine, is the world's fifth largest cosmetic company and second largest direct selling company, with 6.4 million independent sales representatives, primarily female, in more than 140 countries. Capping the evening are an interactive panel discussion with the film's director Judy Chaikin and some of the celebrated artists in the film, moderated by Worby, as well as musical interludes performed by some of the current leading ladies of jazz, including saxophonist Mindi Abair, who has appeared with Josh Groban, Lee Ritenour and the Backstreet Boys, among many others. A complimentary pre-concert cocktail hour for ticket holders, with 'popcorn fare' and music by an all-female jazz ensemble from Westridge High School in Pasadena, begins at 6 pm followed by the 7 pm program.

Artizfacts Studio Gallery Opens Space to ArtsFest, 8/23

Kevin McDowell, artist/owner, is an arts advocate and a licensed arts educator of NYS. He has opened his space to the public during the successful run of ArtsFest 2012 in New Rochelle. He offers arts instruction to all ages to the residence and the surrounding communities. Now the Artizfacts studio Gallery will be open for the social night life with a monthly Art Party Social event every third Friday and Saturday. The Art Party Social events will serve as a platform to showcase live musical entertainment and host exhibits for new emerging artist and performers. The first opening event will feature the Tim Reyes Quartet Saturday, August 24 th 6:00pm to 10:00pm. Tim Reyes studied with jazz masters Pat Mrtino, John Scofield and Pat Metheny, and has played with various local artists such as NY jazz Saxist Tyrone Birkett.
