Where Is My Maple Town is an original ancient Chinese drama written by Yuting He, telling the story of a scholar who struggles to hold onto his principles in an ancient time which conspires against morality at every turn. During its three-week run Off-Broadway in TheatreRow, the production received positive reviews from China Daily, SinoVision China, World Journal, The China Press, and Tony Award-winning playwright David H. Hwang.
MOA Explores Global Puppetry Traditions With Premiere Exhibition
The Museum of Anthropology (MOA) at UBC presents an immersive exhibition animated with light, sound, and moving images - Shadows, Strings and Other Things: The Enchanting Theatre of Puppets, on display from May 16 to October 14, 2019. Curated by Dr. Nicola Levell, an associate professor of museum and visual anthropology at the University of British Columbia and sought-after independent curator, this enchanting exhibition details the role puppetry traditions have played from generation to generation in the transmission of cultural knowledge, stories, and values around the world. Visitors will have the opportunity to view more than 250 handcrafted puppets drawn from MOA's collection - the largest in Western Canada - plus, new acquisitions from China, Brazil, Italy, Java, the UK, and France revealed to the public for the first time.
Noreen Taylor Announces the 2014 RBC Taylor Prize for Literary Non-Fiction Shortlist
Today, Noreen Taylor, prize founder and chair of the Charles Taylor Foundation announced the 2014 RBC Taylor Prize Shortlist before a breathless, standing-room-only crowd of publishers and journalists. The following five shortlisted books were culled from 12 titles on the RBC Taylor Prize Longlist which was released in December. The longlist was selected from 124 Canadian-authored non-fiction books submitted to this year's Prize by 45 publishers in 2013.
