Savage Ticket Announces Winners Of Its 'How I Fell In Love With Jazz' Contest
In anticipation of the debut of Savage Ticket's exciting and innovative new music platform slated for early 2021, Savage Ticket Jazz music fans were invited by Savage Ticket to submit fun and creative short video diaries for their “How I Fell In Love With Jazz” contest, detailing how jazz fans and performers alike fell in love with Jazz music.
BWW Flashback: AFTER MIDNIGHT Closes on Broadway Today
Producers Scott Sanders and Wynton Marsalis brought us After Midnight, directed and choreographed by Warren Carlyle and featuring the big-band sounds of nine-time Grammy Award-winner Wynton Marsalis' Jazz at Lincoln Center All-Stars. Following yesterday's matinee, the cast and band of Broadway's After Midnight paraded to 47th and Broadway where West 47th Street was renamed 'DUKE ELLINGTON WAY' in an official Street Sign Unveiling Ceremony at the corner of 47th and Broadway. Musicians from the Jazz at Lincoln Center All-Stars (including Arthur Baron, one of the last surviving members from Ellington's orchestra) played two Ellington favorites for all of Times Square, in celebration. STAGE TUBE: AFTER MIDNIGHT Visits Duke Ellington's Grave in Honor of the 40th Anniversary of His Death
Musicians from the Jazz at Lincoln Center All-Stars band, currently in the 7-time Tony-nominated Broadway musical After Midnight, visited Duke Ellington's grave at Woodlawn cemetery, where a crowd gathered to honor his legacy on the 40th year anniversary of his death. They played MOOD INDIGO, and Mercedes Ellington (Duke's granddaughter) placed a wreath at the gravesite. They finished with a triumphant Ellington classic, TAKE THE A TRAIN.

Just yesterday, producers Scott Sanders and Wynton Marsalis announced the roster of musicians who will form the Jazz at Lincoln Center All-Stars and play nightly on Broadway in the new musical After Midnight. Hand-picked by Marsalis, Jazz at Lincoln Center's nine-time Grammy and Pulitzer Prize Award-winning Artistic Director, the band includes 17 of the finest soloists and ensemble players in the music world today. Directed and choreographed by Warren Carlyle, After Midnight begins preview performances at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre (256 West 47th Street) on Friday, October 18, 2013 with an official opening night set for Sunday, November 3, 2013.
