Magic Tuber Stringband to Embark on East Coast tour this August
North Carolina-based folk outfit Magic Tuber Stringband are set to embark on an East Coast US tour in August of 2024. The tour follows the release of the band's Thrill Jockey debut Needlefall, out earlier this Spring, and includes a set at Deep in the Valley Festival.

14th Annual MFA Playwrights Workshop Launches New Work Next Week In Washington D.C.
National New Play Network, the country's alliance of nonprofit theaters that collaborate in innovative ways to develop, produce, and extend the life of new plays, in association with the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival and Stanford University's National Center for New Plays, announce the 14th Annual MFA Playwrights' Workshop. The Kennedy Center will host more than 60 theater-makers from July 27-August 4, 2019 as part of the week-long Workshop featuring new works by graduate students or recent MFA graduates from the University of California, San Diego, Iowa Playwrights' Workshop, Boston University, National Theatre School of Canada, and Brown University.

Ahead of the release of their new album Across The Field on June 14th, duo House and Land have released the defiant, empowering single 'Carolina Lady.' Where the traditional folk song frames the titular lady misogynisticly as a prize to be won, House and Land reclaim power by eliminating the lyrics and replacing them with an improvised instrumental interpretation of the song's melody with electric guitar and fiddle, a testament to their agency and skill.
House and Land Announce New Album 'Across The Field'
On June 14th, 2019, duo House and Land will release Across The Field. On their sophomore album, acclaimed guitarist/multi-instrumentalist Sarah Louise and fiddler/banjoist Sally Anne Morgan (Black Twig Pickers) cull songs from Appalachia, the Ozarks, and the U.K. and imbue them with a sense of themselves through careful arrangements, varied instrumentation, and lyrical reframing. Their feminist interpretations of lyrics reflective of another time and attitude is both empowering and illustrative.
The Kennedy Center Announces 50th KCACTF National Festival
The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts hosts more than 120 outstanding theater students from colleges and universities across the nation as part of the 50th annual Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival (KCACTF), which runs April 16-20, 2019 in multiple locations throughout the Center. The Center also announced the national awardees for the KCACTF. Selected awardees and representatives will be brought to Washington, D.C. for an expense-paid trip to participate in the National Festival. These student artists from across the United States have been recognized for their outstanding work from the eight regional festivals that were held January 8 through February 28, 2019.
