After a pandemic-induced postponement of one year, one of the opera world’s oldest and most prestigious competitions is back on and will mark a milestone in 2022: the George London Foundation Competition will hold its 50th anniversary event in February, in-person for the singers and judges, in New York City.

After a pandemic-induced postponement of one year, one of the opera world's oldest and most prestigious competitions is back on and will mark a milestone in 2022: the George London Foundation Competition will hold its 50th anniversary event in February, in-person for the singers and judges, in New York City. While the final round is usually a public event, this year it will be held without an audience but livestreamed free of charge on the foundation's website, Facebook page, and YouTube channel, as well as the Facebook page of The Morgan Library and Museum.
Opera In The Heights to Presents IL TROVATORE
Opera in the Heights, after a year and a half of alternative programming online and outdoors, has announced its return to fully-staged productions in its home venue, Lambert Hall. Headlining the season will be original productions of Verdi's Il Trovatore (November 13, 14, 19, 21, 2021) and Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin (April 2, 3, 8, 10, 2022).
50th Annual George London Foundation Competition Is Postponed to 2022
The 50th annual George London Foundation Competition for young American and Canadian opera singers, which was scheduled to take place in April 2021, has been postponed until next year. The competition typically confers five George London Awards of $10,000 each. The remaining finalists receive Encouragement Awards of $1,000.
37th Rendez-vous Quebec Cinema to Present Quebec-Made Films in English
From February 20 to March 2, the 37thannual Rendez-vous Québec Cinéma, presented by Hydro-Québec, in collaboration with Radio-Canada, will include a significant number of Quebec-made films in English. Spanning a range of genres, including comedies, drama and thrillers, and tackling topical issues like sexual and cultural diversity, the program has something to please every cinephile. The Rendez-vous is an excellent opportunity to learn more about how our films are made, thanks to the many artists and other film professionals who attend the festival.

Based loosely on the eponymous eight paintings and engravings by William Hogarth (1733-1735), Stravinsky's dramatic opera follows the decline and fall of a profligate heir who makes a devil's bargain with Nick Shadow, abandoning life in the country and his tender fiancee for the wicked temptations of London.The Rake's Progress will be performed 7:30pm, Thursday, August 2 and 2:00pm, Saturday, August 4 at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Houston Grand Opera Announces Concert Of Arias 2018 Semifinalists
Houston Grand Opera (HGO) has chosen the semifinalists for the 30th annual Eleanor McCollum Competition for Young Singers Concert of Arias, to be presented in the Stude Concert Hall at Rice University on February 1, at 7 p.m. A limited number of general admission tickets for the performance are available here. For the second time, the program will also be streamed live on Facebook, as well as on YouTube. The livestream will be hosted this year by award-winning soprano Tamara Wilson. Viewers will be invited to cast their votes for an Online Viewers' Choice Award.
