SATC to Offer Free Reading of WE ARE A HUNDRED Today

In Jonas Hassen Khemiri's third play WE ARE A HUNDRED we meet a trio of women: A young revolutionary, a middle-aged living within her comfort zone, and an old truth seeker. Three persons who, in their fight to define themselves, start to realize that they are the same person. Join Jonas Hassen Khemiri's unpredictable world where everyone fights to define the meaning of the word 'we'. Khemiri, born in Sweden in 1978, is the author of three novels and six plays. His first novel, One REd Eye, received in 2004 the Boras Tidning award for best literary debut. His second novel, Montocore, (2011) won several literary awards including the Swedish Radio Award for best novel of the year. Khemiri's works have been translated into more than fifteen languages and his plays have been performed by over 40 international companies. In 2011 Khemiri's play Invasion premiered in New York at Walkerspace and he was awarded a Village Voice Obie Award for playwriting.

SATC’s Contemporary Reading Series Continues With TWENTY MINUTES AFTER DEATH, 3/26

On Monday, March 26, as part of their Contemporary Reading Series, Scandinavian American Theater Company and Scandinavia House will co-present a reading of Danish playwright Thomas Markmann's Twenty Minutes After Death. The reading, for which translator Nina Sokol will be on hand, will take place at 8:00 P.M. at Scandinavia House (58 Park Avenue), with a wine and soda pre-reception beginning at 7:30 P.M. Admission is free.

Bond Street Theatre returns to BTP with the world premier of The Mechanical. Parts Monty Python and The Twilight Zone, The Mechanical transplants the outcast creature from Mary Shelley's novel 'Frankenstein' into the true story of a sensational chess-playing robot built in the late 18th century. Known as The Turk, the chess-playing automaton amazed royalty, foreshadowed computers, and duped the public with its clever design.
