Haven Theatre will present its third DIRECTORS HAVEN, the company's ever-growing initiative showcasing the talents of three early career directors. This season, Kristen Johnson directs Vaclav Havel's riveting political satire THE PROTEST, Ian Martin helms Amiri Baraka's THE TOILET, a powerful look at love and empathy, and Lexi Saunders directs Rachel Dubose's sharply funny and biting new play THE DEPARTURE. The three fully-produced productions will run back-to-back in one program. DIRECTOR'S HAVEN 2017 will play October 16 November 1, 2017 at Haven Theatre's resident home, The Den Theatre (2A), 1333 N. Milwaukee Ave. in Chicago's Wicker Park neighborhood.
KING LIZ to Play Windy City Playhouse Beginning 5/24
Rehearsals are underway for Fernanda Coppel's "King Liz," Windy City Playhouse's second show of the 2017 season, playing May 24 through July 16. Under the direction of Chuck Smith, the "fierce and compelling" (The New York Times) production stars Lanise Shelley as Liz Rico, a powerful NBA sports agent vying for a promotion to head her entire company. When Freddie Luna (played by Eric Gerard), a young, talented rookie, comes under her wing, Liz faces the biggest challenge of her career: trust her gut with the new player, or risk everything she's built for herself. The cast of "King Liz" also features Philip Edward Van Lear as Coach Jones, Jackie Alamillo as Gabby Fuentes, Caron Buinis as Barbara Flowers and Frank Nall as Mr. Candy.

The CHICAGO ONE-MINUTE PLAY FESTIVAL (#1MPF) returns to The Den Theatre for the second time this year - this time featuring the work of Chicago's women-identified artists. Inspired by the theme, "Nevertheless, We Persisted," the marathon evening of one-minute plays by 60 of Chicago's established and emerging woman-identified playwrights and directors plays two nights only, Tuesday, May 2 and Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at The Den Theatre, 1333 N.
