Celebrate Black History Month With The Staten Island Museum
The Staten Island Museum is celebrating Black History throughout February by partnering with community organizations and individuals to offer engaging programs: Black History Month Transcribe-a-thon on February 13, Lunch and Learn: The Pecan on February 17 with Dr. Kobinah Abdul-Salim, and a special exhibit of the FDNY 2001 Memorial Quilt on loan from Sandy Ground Historical Society on view for the month of February.
SI Museum Celebrates Centennial Of Women's Suffrage With New Exhibition
This March, to coincide with Women's History Month, the Staten Island Museum marks the centennial of the 19th Constitutional Amendment with a new exhibition, Women of the Nation Arise! Staten Islanders in the Fight for Women's Right to Vote. The exhibition will present the remarkable stories of local suffragists acting on the grassroots level to create the momentum necessary for regional and national change and the bold tactics they employed to win the vote.
Staten Island Museum Explore The Underground Railroad
Join historian Debbie-Ann Paige at the Staten Island Museum on Saturday, June 8 at 12pm and 2pm at the Staten Island presentation of 5 Boros to Freedom to explore the history of slavery, freedom seekers, and the abolition movement on Staten Island. 5 Boros to Freedom is an extension of the work of Underground Railroad History Project taking place in all five boroughs of New York City celebrating and supporting community engagement with the rich African American history that resides there. Staten Island Museum Marks A New Era At 2018 Gala
The Staten Island Museum hold its annual fundraiser on May 18, celebrating a new era in leadership and honorees that epitomize commitment to community. The honorees are Ralph Branca, Staten Island Museum's immediate past Board Chairman and CEO of Victory State Bank; historian, educator, and professional genealogist Debbie-Ann Paige; and Jee Ra, principal of the Korean School of Staten Island and program director of the Korean Community Development Center. Gala co-chairs are Kashif Pervez and Oswaldo Pena. This year's annual gala is the first under the leadership of recently appointed President and CEO Janice Monger, who began her tenure in September 2017.
