BWW Review: THE SECRET GARDEN Mesmerizes Houston Audiences as Theatre Under The Stars' 49th Season Opener
Opening their 49th Season with the enchanting storybook tale THE SECRET GARDEN, Theatre Under the Stars has welcomed Dan Knechtges as Artistic Director to take over the season that predecessor Sheldon Epps put in place. The musical, directed and choreographed by 5th Avenue Theatre's Artistic Director David Armstrong is based on Frances Hodgson Burnett's fairytale classic and a book by Marsha Norman, infused with music by Lucy Simon. As part of a pre-Broadway co-production, this Tony Award winning musical will be undergoing refinements made by Armstrong and his creative team.
SONGS OF TOM KITT Concert Set for City Winery, 7/18
Refuge Theatre Project, the two-year-old company that produced the surprise hit musical of the 2015-16 season with its environmental staging of High Fidelity in a makeshift 'record store,' will present a one-night-only concert of songs by High Fidelity composer Tom Kitt. The evening, called I Got You, will showcase selections from Broadway musicals for which Kitt either composed the score or provided musical arrangements, along with new unpublished songs he's provided especially for the event. City Winery, 1200 W. Randolph Street is the event venue. Christopher Pazdernik, director of High Fidelity, will direct the concert, with music direction by Mike Evans.

Piffaro, The Renaissance Band, Receives $10K NEA Grant
National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Acting Chairman Joan Shigekawa announced today that Piffaro, The Renaissance Band is one of 895 nonprofit organizations nationwide to receive an NEA Art Works grant. Piffaro, The Renaissance Band is recommended for a $10,000 grant to support Dresden Vespers 1619, with a special guest from Boston, the highly esteemed Renaissance choral ensemble, Blue Heron (blueheronchoir.org).
