BWW Interview: Chelsea Sutton Reveals The Personal Significance of Creating SPITE & MALICE
Playwright/director Chelsea Sutton's latest SPITE & MALICE premieres March 22, 2021 as one of the thirteen projects in RealTime Intervention's POST THEATRICAL. An homage to her grandmother, SPITE & MALICE has the audience interacting with the SPITE & MALICE actors, using materials mailed to the ticket holder. The busy, multi-project-juggling Chelsea managed to find a few moments to answer my inquiries.
Festival of Plays-by-Mail Premieres SPITE & MALICE
A collective of 13 theater companies and individual artists from 8 cities across the globe have joined forces for POST THEATRICAL, a festival of works that use mail as a theatrical medium. The only Los Angeles-based project, the interactive fantasy SPITE & MALICE, runs March 22 - April 30, 2021 and is helmed by local award-winning writer/director Chelsea Sutton.

It has been called the most important photograph ever taken-an image that led to a breakthrough in genetics research. Ensemble Studio Theatre/LA's world premiere of playwright Marek Glinski's PIGS AND CHICKENS presents a vivid send-up of exaggerated composites of co-workers Glinski at one time had to work with (as he writes in the program notes). Hard to imagine having to spend forty hours a week working with these unlikeable people, after the two hours in the theatre watching Glinski's PIGS AND CHICKENS.
