BWW Feature: Photos of PERICLES PRINCE OF TYRE at Gamut Theatre Group
Gamut Theatre Group's performance of Shakespeare's Pericles, Prince of Tyre is a show you won't want to miss. It will be in production for two more weekends, running through November 25th. Pericles, directed by Thomas Weaver, is a beautiful production that draws you in from the first moment with wonderfully crafted sound, lights, props, costumes, and movement.
BWW Review: PERICLES PRINCE OF TYRE at Gamut Theatre Group
Pericles, Prince of Tyre is widely regarded as being the product of a collaboration between Shakespeare and George Wilkins. Scholars theorize that the first two acts, recounting the various travels of Pericles, may have been written by Wilkins, while the final acts were pure Shakespeare. It is estimated that the play was written around 1607. One of the most interesting aspects of Pericles is that it doesn't fit a typical Shakespearean genre. What seems like a tragedy ends with a beautiful and romantic reunion. Not only that, but it is filled with surprising and delightful elements of comedy. This was easily one of my favorite Shakespeare plays to watch, and it can be seen at Gamut Theatre from November 3rd-25th.
BWW Review: COLLECTIVE RAGE Catches Fire at Open Stage
When you hear the title COLLECTIVE RAGE and understand that the play you're to see may be feminist, queer, or both, you might picture angry women screaming about men, God, the universe, or almost anything. Once you see that the full title is COLLECTIVE RAGE: A TALE IN FIVE BETTIES, you might warm up to the idea that the play might not be so very angry. If you were to read the entire subtitle, which you're best off reading on the program and not here, and start laughing about Ernest Shackleton and comparing the Antarctic to genitalia, you will certainly realize you're face to face with comedy.
BWW Interview: Cast And Director of COLLECTIVE RAGE: A PLAY IN FIVE BETTIES at Open Stage Of Harrisburg
Karen, Ruch, director of Collective Rage: A Play in Five Betties at Open Stage Harrisburg, comments, 'It's interesting that the Urban Dictionary explains that 'a betty epitomizes a modern day queen, commonly associated with increased levels of self-worth (because she continues to create it). She has the power and agency to be irresistibly sexy and feminine minutes after effortlessly emasculating a mere dozen men with her intellect and ability to deliver. She is educated, deep, witty, simple and young-hearted. She is naturally beautiful, honest, brave, loyal and nurturing. She is the whole package; balanced, quirky, open-minded, complex and flawed. She can be raw with her words, and gentle with her touch. She is soulful, connected and driven. A modern day triple-threat, go-getter. Most commonly found being creative. An entrepreneur, wife, mother, daughter, sister, girlfriend.'
