Theatre Passe Muraille Announces Renovation Underway At Historic Ryerson Avenue Facility
One of Toronto’s most storied live performance venues, Theatre Passe Muraille is excited to announce that the 23.24 season will kick off with the World Premiere of the 2-act opera CANOE, presented in partnership with Unsettled Scores, Native Earth Performing Arts, and The Toronto Consort. CANOE will be staged off-site at Trinity St Paul’s Centre, while a transformation is underway at 16 Ryerson Avenue.
BWW Interview: Donna-Michelle St. Bernard of SOUND OF THE BEAST at Black Theatre Workshop/MAI
Canada's oldest professional black theatre company, Black Theatre Workshop are all set to launch their 48th season this October. The first production of the season is SOUND OF THE BEAST (SOTB), a one-woman show that uses spoken word, story-telling and hip-hop to spit rhymes from the underground and relentlessly challenge poverty, oppression, and bad dancing. SOTB is the latest instalment of writer / star Donna-Michelle St. Bernard's marathon project of writing 54 plays - one for every African nation. This one is inspired by Tunisian emcee Weld-El 15 who was jailed for 2 years in 2013 for his song Boulicia Kleb (The Police Are Dogs). Currently the Artistic Director of New Harlem Productions, Donna-Michelle is a multi-award winning, two-time nominee for the Governor General's Award for English-language drama, and, alongside Black Theatre Workshop is bringing Sound of the Beast to Montreal for the very first time.
VIP Presenters Announced for Monday's Dora Awards

After years spent under copyright, Aldous Huxley's enduring classic Brave New World will come to life on a Canadian stage for the first time in decades. Produced by Litmus Theatre and Kabin and with the support of Theatre Passe Muraille (TPM), Brave New World previews September 27-28, opens September 29 and runs until October 16, 2016.

Theatre Passe Muraille's THE DE CHARDIN PROJECT Opens
Last night, Theatre Passe Muraille (TPM) opened their production of The De Chardin Project, by Adam Seybold, a Dora Award winner for Outstanding New Play in the Independent Theatre category. A multi-award-winning team is involved in this production - featuring Maev Beaty and Cyrus Lane, directed by Alan Dilworth, with designers Lorenzo Savoini and Thomas Ryder Payne. The De Chardin Project is in the TPM Mainspace from November 20 to December 14, 2014.

Theatre Passe Muraille (TPM) will present Same Same But Different by Anita Majumdar. Co-produced by TPM and the Alberta Theatre Projects in association with Nightswimming, the production highlights prejudices that are sometimes hidden under the colourful facade of Bollywood films. Combining the glamour of Bollywood music, dance and glitter, Same Same But Different is directed by Nightswimming Artistic Director Brian Quirt, starring Majumdar, Nicco Lorenzo Garcia and the voice of Reza Jacobs, on stage at the TPM Mainspace (16 Ryerson Ave.) from Feb. 15 to Mar. 8, 2014.
Regine Cadet Joins Theatre Passe Muraille as New General Manager
Theatre Passe Muraille (TPM) is delighted to announce that Regine Cadet will be joining the company as general manager. Cadet comes to TPM after twelve years with MAI (Montreal, Arts Interculturels), where she held the position of artistic and executive director for seven years. Under Cadet's direction, MAI has become a Quebec leader for the development of intercultural and culturally specific work by performance and visual artists.

A 90 minute emotional rollercoaster, the show features stories from Pitre's difficult life as well as original music that she wrote specifically for the production. Is she scared? Absolutely. Theatre Passe Muraille Announces 2013/14 Season Includes ON THE ROCKS and VITALS

It also features more than a dash of song and dance.
Soulpepper and the Young Centre Announce 2013 Events
Albert Schultz, Founding Artistic Director of Soulpepper Theatre Company and General Director of the Young Centre for the Performing Arts today announced a full year's slate of artistic and community-based activity for Soulpepper and the Young Centre in 2013. Over 700 performances representing the remarkable artistic and cultural diversity of the city will happen under the Young Centre's roof next year, including festivals, cabarets, and community partnerships. Soulpepper Theatre Company's repertory season features fifteen plays including two marathon-style theatrical events to be staged in their entirety: Tony Kushner's Pulitzer Prize-winning Angels in America (Part One: Millennium Approaches & Part Two: Perestroika) and Alan Ayckbourn's The Norman Conquests (Table Manners, Living Together & Round and Round the Garden). Soulpepper's season includes adaptations of plays from the classical canon (Beaumarchais/Rossini's The Barber of Seville, Schnitzler's La Ronde, and Dickens' Great Expectations) alongside twentieth-century gems by Tom Stoppard, Joe Orton, Sam Shepard and Canada's John Murrell.

His 27 years at TWP is the longest tenure of any artistic director in Canada.
