A.C.T. Announces Lineup for Third Annual New Strands Festival
Today, American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T.)'s Associate Artistic Director Andy Donald announced the lineup for A.C.T.'s third annualNew Strands Festival taking place at A.C.T.'s Strand Theater (1127 Market Street, San Francisco) May 17-20, 2018. Sponsored by Mozilla, the New Strands Festival is a free festival that features new theatrical pieces, works-in-progress, and readings, as well as live music, comedy, panel discussions, a master class series, and special happy hours to celebrate and share the artistry and expertise of the creative community within A.C.T.'s Conservatory, as well as from New Strands artists from the local and national theater scene.

American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T.) Associate Artistic Director Andy Donald announced today that applications forArtShare, A.C.T.'s community space-sharing initiative, are now being accepted. Created in 2012, ArtShare provides free performance space for small and mid-sized companies without permanent performance space, as well as independent artists, who would benefit from being in residence at one of A.C.T.'s spaces in the Central Market area-The Costume Shop (1117 Market St.), A.C.T.'s 49-seat black-box venue; and The Rueff, a multi-use event and performance space located at A.C.T.'s Strand Theater (1127 Market St.). ArtShare is made possible by generous support from the Hearst Foundation, the Rainin Foundation, and the Zellerbach Family Foundation.

Whether he's portraying Zach Galifianakis's mother on the FX hit Baskets or winning over audiences worldwide with his unique brand of stand-up, iconic comedian Louie Anderson has inspired and entertained with his inimitable brand of humor and warmth. In his one-man show, Dear Dad, Anderson recounts his unique upbringing through the touching and outrageous letters he wrote to his late father. In this new work in progress a journey full of laughs, love, and possibilities audiences will have the opportunity to see one of today's top comedians share this powerful story in the intimate Strand Theater. Whether he's delivering killer comedy at an intimate nightclub, giving acclaimed performances on HBO's Girls and in Judd Apatow's Trainwreck, or performing live in his widely lauded, Jerry Seinfeld directed hit Broadway shows, Colin Quinn has proven himself a master of comedic observation and storytelling. This December, Quinn who is apparently refusing to leave the business brings his sly wit and unique perspective to A.C.T.'s Strand Theater in the San Francisco debut of his all-new stand-up show, One in Every Crowd. Showcasing his distinctive brand of razor-sharp and intelligent comedy, One in Every Crowd proves that there's always one person in every group situation who ruins everything! The first of several solo-storytellers presented under A.C.T.'s @TheStrand series, One in Every Crowd performs for five performances only December 14 17, 2017. The performance schedule is as follows: Thursday, December 14 at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, December 15 at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, December 16 at 7:30 p.m. & 9:30 p.m.; and Sunday, December 17 at 2 p.m.

American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T.) announced today that applications for the fall 2017 San Francisco Semester (SFS) are now being accepted. The study-away program brings undergraduate students, recent college graduates, and international students into an active, ongoing engagement with the eclectic and energetic arts community of San Francisco and the surrounding Bay Area. Grounded in a rich academic curriculum, the San Francisco Semester focuses on the practical aspects of the craft of acting and life in the professional theater. The 15-week program features a 17-credit core curriculum enhancing students' study with rigorous, upper-level classes in acting styles, voice/dialects, physical theater, and devised (student-created) work.
