BIO

ANDREW RASMUSSEN is an independent director and creative producer based in New York City. He established Cardinal Theatricals, creating immersive stagings of Andrew Lippa's The Wild Party, RENT, The Rocky Horror Show LIVE!, and When a Man Loves a Diva - often staging in unusual production venues: from 1,000 seat former Vaudeville houses to a 6,500 square-foot warehouse. He has created unique concerts, shows and experiences for Grammy Award-Winning Jamecia Bennett and The Sounds of Blackness and was commissioned to create a 125+ person flashmob for the opening week of The Minnesota Twins. His original work with Mrs. Smith (co-writing & directing) has been seen Off-Broadway, American Repertory Theatre, and Berkeley Rep.

Cardinal Theatricals has announced that Mrs. Smith's Broadway Cat-tacular!, the all-singing, all-dancing "demented cabaret on acid," created and performed by New York based writer/actor and performance artist David Hanbury, will close Off Broadway. Starring Mrs. Smith and her "Broadway Boys," Brandon Haagenson and Ken Lear and directed by Andrew Rasmussen, performances began on Friday, July 10th at the 47th Street Theatre (304 West 47th Street - between 8th & 9th Avenue). Opening Night was Monday, July 20th.  The limited summer engagement (originally scheduled to run through September 20th) will now close Saturday, August 1 at 8pm.

Yet more theatre lore from the crazy world of Mrs. Smith! Here she recounts her first encounter as a young girl with legendary stage actor John Barrymore. After reading the letter she wrote him, he wisked her off for drinks at Sardi's and then up to Harlem to hear James Baldwin recite poetry - to a bongo beat. Therefore, she is saddened that the theater bearing his name has gone to the dogs. How curious. Check out the video below!
